HELP!
We are just about to get our foster care license. With our foster children, I would love to CD while they are with us, but plan on sending disposables when they visit their parents. We are going to foster newborn-3 yr olds.
But there are SOOO many choices out there to choose from for CD. Suggestions?
I was given lots of med and large prefolds but no covers or anything else. I just talked to DH and we might get the flip covers while they're on sale, but I read on here that we should have multiple types depending on the size/shape of the child. And we don't have much money... What do you suggest?
Re: Cloth diapering for fostering
The FAQs have a link to brand reviews.
We generally recommend different types because different types/brands fit kids differently. That said, prefolds are pretty universal. I would recommend getting some sized diapers (fitteds and pockets) used to supplement your prefold stash. And covers are typically pretty cheap.
GL! Yay for foster mommas!
Buying used is a way to save some cash. Look here on the swap spot board, on craig's list, on hyena cart, and/or on diaperswappers.com forums.
One-size diapers and covers would be good, so you can snap 'em to fit the child you've got. Newborns need their own XS stuff, though.
I like Kawaii diapers and they're a budget brand - between $6 and $10 each. https://theluvyourbaby.com/

Yay for another foster mommy! It's hard work, but worth it!
Try to find used covers to save money. Wait until you find good deals, then buy. Also, you could wait until you get a placement, and then get the size that will fit that LO. Overtime, you will have multiple sizes without spending too much before you have too.

We've been CDing all of our placements (except DD who was 3 when she came to us) since we got licensed. I started out with a used stash from DiaperSwappers and a local swap shop and have added a few new Best Bottoms covers (my favorite) and one Thirsties cover for the prefolds. I also happened across a good sale on BlueBerry's and bought 6 brand new.
My favorite CD's so far are Blueberry's (pockets) and BestBottoms covers with prefolds (we used the hospital prefolds sent home when we picked the baby up). I've heard really good things about Kawaii and will be adding them to my stash soon, baby is getting too wiggly to put prefolds on.

Thanks for the suggestions! My DH is on board and excited about it too (especially once he started looking at youtube videos about different types). So we'll probably start out buying a few each month of different types until we have a placement. Then we can stock up on the size needed for our kids and go from there.
Thanks!
