  • I feel awful for those poor little boys. So terrible.

  • I don't know whether this has been discussed here, but I think there's some debate about whether the social worker did the right thing. Like, should she have gone back into the house to get the kids as soon as she smelled the gas, risking her own life? I don't know. I haven't read enough about it yet.

  • Josh who?

....oh no, I just read a few other comments... Do I not want to know?

  • Is it typical for them to allow the children to ride with a parent that needs supervision? That's seems kind of, well, dumb.

  • All I keep thinking, is why did he decide to set fire to the house? Those poor boys had been through so much emotional pain, why did he have to put them through that kind of physical pain? It's like he wanted them to keep suffering. Just disgusting.

Ride where?  I thought that the social worker took the kids to the house and Josh Powell took the kids and locked them in the house with him.

At least that's what the news here has been saying.

I think it's awful that the social worker is now going to fall under scrutiny because of the actions of a daranged sicko. The man killed his own children, he is to blame. We don't need to place blame anywhere else here. Blame will not bring those children back.

    Winner winner chicken dinner.

The social worker should not be blamed at all for any of this.

This is according to the local news:

A social worker brought the two boys to Josh Powell's home Sunday for what was to be a supervised visit. They rushed toward the home, leaving the social worker behind. By the time she got to the door, Powell had let his sons in but locked her out, Graham Fire and Rescue Chief Gary Franz told The Associated Press.

I think what happend was the boys jumped out of the car and ran into the house and the dad locked the door before she could get to it. I dont know how quickly she was moving, but she was never in the house. The whole story from the beginning is coconuts! Josh Powell and his dad are both nightmares. Its so sad. Those poor little boys.

  • I heard that the boys were starting to talk about what happened with the mom like "she was in the trunk". The whole thing is just horrible

  • Reading that story made me sick to my stomach
  • I am so sad for those boys, and for their mother's parents.  To lose their daughter, and then their grandchildren, must be beyond heartbreaking.  If I were the social worker, I would hope that I would have called 911 instead of trying to call my supervisor.  But that is hindsight from an outside perspective.

The SW called 911 and Powell's neighbors as soon as the SW smelled the gas.

    Mental illness.

I do understand that some people are truly sick but this whole story strikes me more as him panicking about the boys starting to talk, as well as the whole if I cant have them no one can mentality

  • I think his mental health was broken when he killed his wife.

We don't have to blame or judge her actions.  You can't always stop someone hellbent on bad.

THIS. He was obviously effed up. Just when I think nothing truly evil surprises me anymore, people do jacked up stuff like this and I just can't process it. As far as the SW is concerned, she's definitely not to blame. I can't even imagine what she's going through right now, to witness that and be unable to stop it from happening. My T&Ps are with her and the surviving family members of those boys.

This.  They kept showing a clip of him picking up the youngest outside of a building and the LO had a lollipop and then they showed the house on fire.  It was enough to make me want to vomit.  Those poor sweet babies.

  • It's just disgusting.

One question, though - why was he even allowed contact with the boys?  Was he not a suspect in his wife's disappearance?  I get that he was their dad, but still...

I heard the same thing.  I also remember seeing the original story on Dateline a while back.  Those poor boys.  It's one thing for someone to kill themself, but to take innocent children with them is the worst.  That whole family was f'd up.  The grandfather (dad's dad) was a creep!

  • I had to go google this because I hadn't heard...

Im almost at a loss for words. In no way sw fault. Possibly court system for him even being able to see his kids, but I don't know case enough to make that statement.

I pray those boys are happy & safe with their mother now. The thought of them happily reuniting is the only thing that kept be from puking.

How awful is that man.... And what a creepy grandfather....

May God be with those who cared & loved those kids and their mom.
