$7 million on tv ads for election?

I understand that they need to campaign but that is ridiculous.  The economy is in the toilet and they get to spend millions on commercials!  There are starving people, people without jobs, schools without enough money to operate, etc.  Anyone else think the spending is out of control?

  • Eh, it does seem absurd. But this is why people make donations and such. It's the name of the game in politics & airtime isn't cheap.

  • Spending is out of control on EVERYTHING (hello, $150,000 on Palin;s clothes???) . But I take a lot more ofense to something like Beyonce's 5 million dollar wedding ring than the campaign advertising. I have donated quite a bit to Obama, and I trust the campaign to use it as they see fit. If that 30 minute ad last night makes a difference in him winning, I say money well spent.

  • That's not really 'spreading the wealth' now is it?!
  • I totally thought the infomercial was over the top. With all the money he has, he should spread the wealth so to speak after the election. Can you imagine all the charities that would benefit with the slush money afterwards?

  • 100% disgusted with campaign spending on both sides. I joked a while back that I would vote for the party that spent the least money!!
  • on one hand, I think it IS offensive how much money has been spent on elections this election cycle.  So much more could be done with that money!

On the other hand, donations are fueling the spending.  And the money Obama has raised has OBVIOUSLY been fueled by something out there if people want to give their money to him rather than anything else.

And it warms my liberal elitist heart to see the Dems so far ahead in fundraising ;)  But that is just me...

It isn't so easy to convert political donations to something else, so as much as it would be nice to give the money to charity, there are a TON of rules that would make that VERY difficult.  Just sayin'...

  • Well, pin, guess you'll be voting Republican rather than Demorat.  John McCain has a ceiling on how much he would/could spend.  Not so with Obama...he wouldn't commit to it.
