I cannot get into reading the hunger games.   I don't get it.  I think it's disgusting premise

Re: Another confession

  • Have you tried reading them or are you basing your opinions on what you've heard about them?

Because I felt the same way you did before I read them and then I read them and now I think they're awesome.

  • I love those books!
  • I haven't read them yet but that's because I have other books I am reading right now. I will get to them eventually.

  • I agree with you on the "disgusting premise", but I think that's sort of the whole point.

  • The premise gave me nightmares. I'm a big ball of anxiety during pregnancy :( Once DS2 is out, I hope I can read the first in time for the movie.

  • Well, now that's kind of like not reading Uncle Tom's Cabin, or the Diary of Anne Frank, for the same reason.  Those events aren't fictional, of course, but the idea is comparable.

ETA:  My point is that there are lessons to be learned in books that deal with difficult topics.  Lessons and warnings and reminders.

Perhaps with having ds I just want to read about puppies and rainbows not modern day gladiators

  • I would suggest not reading The Lord of the Flies, then.

This is my favorite book to teach. Aftet eight years of teaching it, I still catch something new each time I read it.

This. I hate reading or watching anything about kids dying, etc. but the book is totally fictional. There is NO WAY the premisis would ever happen, at least in our lifetimes.
