Donor info

Hey girls! I'm just wondering how many of you purchased addition information about donors during your selection process?

If yes what did you do with the info on the donor you chose? Print and save for the future?

Thanks in advance for sharing!

Re: Donor info

  • We used California Cryobank and purchased limited-time access to the second tier of information, which included baby photos for most donors.  I printed all of that info for our short list of donors and used the packets I put together to help me pick the best one.  Our second tier access has expired but we still have all of that info on paper.

  • Yep, we bought everything available.  It's all saved in multiple places (for back-up) and we'll keep it forever.  Eventually, assuming we are so blessed, we will share it with our future children.  In reading some of the extended profiles I definitely pictured having a teenage child and how he or she would respond to some of the information.  (We don't really know yet how or when we will introduce this to them, but that's a problem for down the road :-D.)
TTC with PCOS since July 2011.
    IVF Oct/Nov 2012
    Beta #1 = 77, Beta #2 = 190, Beta #3 = 1044
    Cautiously optimistic.
  • we purchased our donor's full profile. It cost us $20, but it's now a part of my medical record and will be part of our child's medical record as well. My OB (who also did my IUI) was very happy to have it since it contains information that she would like to know about heredity etc.
+ OPK July 6, 2011 IUI with anonymous donor sperm July 7, 2011 BFP July 21, 2011 Baby Girl Harper born via emergency C-section 3/22/12!
  • We purchased things in phases-- medical profiles first, then personal profiles for the ones we were still considering after the medical profile round, then child photos of a small pool of candidates, then an adult photo for our top candidate (who we then tossed out because of his adult photo), then an adult photo for our 2nd choice candidate (who we ultimately selected). We can access most of the information any time from their website, but we do have printed copies (somewhere, lol!). The adult photo came through the mail only.

Now that we have kids, we're planning to go back and purchase everything they have on the donor we used (we don't have the audio samples, for example). I'm hoping they'll put it all on a CD or DVD that we can store in a safety deposit box for when the kids are older.
