Flight seating question...

I'm flying to visit my family next weekend, and our seats are in the exit row.  I'm psyched about this - yay extra leg room! - but are they going to insist that I be re-seated?

Re: Flight seating question...

  • hm....I don't know, I flew pg, but not in the exit row, good question

  • 99% sure they will move you. You need to be able to SAFELY move 50 pounds. Which is strongly advised against when pregnant.
  • That was my thought Jar - but if the plane is crashing and I've gotta move 50 lbs (ie open the door) I'm sure as hell going to do it, pg or not!

  • If you are obviously pregnant then yes you are not permitted to sit in the exit row. I only know this because I tried to get my seat switched on a flight from Vegas, tried to pull the PG card and was denied because it turns out you cant sit in that row if you are PG because you wouldnt be able to help others out of the plane. In the end since I was barely PG I just wore a baggy shirt and we sat there anyway so if you can hide it you will be ok, if not they will need to move you. I would wait until the last minute though, you could get an upgrade to 1st class if that is the only seats left

  • Unfortunately, I think they are going to move you. ?You have to be able to take off and remove the plane door which is pretty heavy.
  • They are only worried about liability, lol...

Me on the other hand, I take an every man for themselves approach.

  • Damn it, I don't want to give up my good seat :(

  • I am a flight attendant and per FAA regulations, there is no restriction against pregnant ladies in the exit row... that I'm aware of. I have never moved one, and we are the ones that do the briefings. We have to ask and receive a verbal response that if need be you are willing and able to perform the functions on the safety card. It is really up to you. I don't see how a pregnant lady is any more of a risk than an 89 yr old man?!

I guess it could depend on the airline though...

    good luck!

  • My guess is that they will move you . . . however I was on a flight and there was a flight attendant from a different airline that was about 7 mos. pregnant and they moved her TO the exit row seat, though my 6'5 DH was promised it.  After all of the experiences that day, I will NEVER fly that airline again.  (Unless maybe there is a huge price difference.)

  • I have flown 2 weeks a month all during my preganancy.  My last trip was last week and I am 35 weeks. I have flown in the exit row 95% of that time. They won't reseat you on American.
