DS does this weird thing that has me wondering if I should be concerned. Every now and then (usually when he's bored or tired - so that might explain it) he'll start hitting himself in the head. Its so odd and I always get him to stop - but it somewhat freaks me out. Anyone else - or any other quirkly LO habits you're seeing?
Re: Head slapping? - Anyone else?
our LO bangs his head on the floor mostly, but lately he's been slapping his head if he gets upset/tired. He also pulls his hair out. I HATE it when he does this, I just try to get to him quickly to calm him down. Its almost like he's frustrated with himself.

B does this and I've seen a little girl at his daycare do it as well. I think it's a relatively normal behavior at this age.
The thing B does that I think it weird - he forces himself to laugh at random times for no reason. Well, I suspect the reason is that he likes how it sounds. But we'll be driving in the car and all of the sudden, "huh huh huh," will sound from the car seat. It's actually reminds me of something that would happen in a bad horror movie.
BFP #2 5/27/12. EDD 2/1/13. m/c and D&C 6/21/12.
G does this too. He'll bang his head on the wall and go "ow" and then laugh. I just think he's experimenting?
H does this, along with banging head on various things (floor, doors, walls, etc). It happens both when she's upset but also like babycakes said just randomly when she's seemingly fine.
Everything I keep hearing is that it's normal - either they like the sound/feeling of it, or they are frustrated and not able to express it. I still plan to ask about it at the 15 mo visit because sometimes it really freaks me out.

Nate does this all.the.time., especially when he's really tired. We played this Sesame street song the other day about "pat your head, rub your tummy" and was sooo excited because he has the head patting (hitting!) down.
I think it's pretty normal. My neice used to pull her hair out at this age...
Edit: Read the other responses and about teething pain. Now I'm wondering if it's related to my LO's frequent ear infections...
