Can these be used to reliably dx down syndrome? I have a friend who opted for that instead of an amnio. I'm going to call my dr tomorrow, but the office is closed for the day.
Thoughts?

Did the her early ultrasounds tell her something was up and to look deeper? There are several soft markers and a few high level markers that can look for risk factors for Downs (nuchal fold, nasal bone, and heart valves being the big ones), but 3d isn't how they look for those, as far as I know.
All I know so far (waiting for her to get back to me- my information comes through our mothers, who are best friends) is that she had 1 in 66 odds and had the ultrasound instead of the amnio and now they're not worried at all.

I had 1 in 47 with my last pregnancy. The U/S will only check a few 'soft' markers ... which is why I did the amnio to find out for sure.
