Trying to Get Pregnant

Was anyone else on the pill for over 10 years before TTC?

I went off the pill in July after being on it for 10 years. My cycles evened out right away, but I am not bleeding very much during my period. Only two days of medium bleeding and two day of very very light bleeding. If my lining is very thin will this effect implantation later?

Re: Was anyone else on the pill for over 10 years before TTC?

  • I was on the pill for over ten years and went off in April.  My periods have been much lighter, and actually very similar to yours.  A few of my friends who have also recently gone off the pill have commented on their lighter periods too.  As far as the implantation question I would be inclined to say it wouldn't matter, but I don;t know.  I'm sure someone here will know.

  • I was on the pill for a little over 14 years.  So far my cycles are averaging 33-35 days and I have had lighter bleeding and not lasting as many days.  I'm not sure how that affects the lining though...
  • I was on BCP for umm (mental math) twelve years.  My cycles also evened out right away and were much lighter than they had been.  I had really heavy and painful periods pre-BCP.  It didn't make any difference in getting pregnant.  Are you charting?  Do you know if you're ovulating?

  • I am ovulating each month according to OPK, around day 14-16. I haven't been temping since it stresses me out.

Then I wouldn't worry too much about it.  Though, you could ask your doc to check your progesterone levels next time you go.

  • I was on BCP for 12 years before coming off of them and it took me about 3 months to regulate everything and know that I was ovulating every month. I got pregnant in our first month TTC but had a missed mc at 8w2d. Before my cycles were about 5 days with two medium and two light. After my mc they are very crampy and heavier. The only advice that I can offer is to temp. That is really the only way to know for sure you ovulated and that you have a normal luteal phase. Sometimes long term BCP can cause low progesterone which would be illustrated in either a short LP or temps consistently dropping below the CH after ovulation. During my first pregnancy I had to take progesterone because the levels were so low. I'm not sure why temping stresses you out but if it were me that is what I would do. Then you take your chart and concerns to your doctor and talk to him/her about it. Saying you just have a light cycle really doesn't say much.

OPKs don't confim ovulation--so even if you see + OPKs that doesn't mean you O.  You certainly could, but you don't know for sure without temping.

There is no need to get your progesterone checked unless there is an indication of a problem.  Being curious isn't a problem.

  • Similar to PPs. I was on BC for 12-13 years. I went off and my periods were shorter and light and usually my cycles were averaging 39-45 days. I had no problems TTC and it took 2 cycles. Howevet now after having my son my periods are painful, heavy and brutal.
  • I was on the pill for nearly 12 years when I went off in March and we started TTC.
For a number of cycles, my periods were only 3 days (m/c cycle non-withstanding) but the last two or three cycles have been more like 5-6 days.  I'm starting to think that maybe 5-6 days is what they're actually going to be, and those first 7 cycles were my body still getting used to coming off all those hormones for all those years.

  • I was on BCP for 8 years, went off of them 15 months ago, and started ttc 3 cycles ago. My periods returned to normal fairly quickly.
  • I was on the pill for probably about 11 years. I had WB 3 days after stopping, and it's been 21 days total with no AF or positive OPK yet. I haven't been temping. My WB came with pretty harsh cramping and lasted for 3 days.

A lot of you mentioned that you regulated pretty quickly after stopping BCPs. How long did it take you? (yes, I know that every woman is different!) and was anyone else on Seasonale?

    GL to everyone!! Big Smile
