I can't burp my 11 day old and he has gas

DH and I have trouble burping our son-- at the hospital I noticed some of the nurses had trouble too.  I try a couple of different ways for several minutes but half the time it doesn't work.  Unfortunately DS seems to have gas-- like right now he is farting a lot in his sleep and earlier seemed somewhat uncomfortable.  We give him little tummies gas drops and that seems to help, but I sure wish I was more effective at burping him.  I haven't a good trick-- I try to hold him so there is some pressure on tummy and sometimes that helps and I try on lap, over shoulder, rubbing tummy, etc.  Does anyone have any other tricks or tips?  He rarely spits up and is a good eater and I try to keep him upright for a few minutes after he finishes his bottle.  I pump and we feed him breast milk from a bottle.

Have you tried to burp him upright in a sitting position?

My son always burps best in an upright sitting position, he burps as soon as I sit him up.
