was there any reason why you chose the infamil over the similac when you switched joe?  our pedi just recommended the regular similac so that's why we've been doing that ... but if infamil is cheaper and just as good, i'm all over that.

Re: [ mgr ]

  • Butting in. ?We used enfamil because it was the sample we received form the pedi when we needed to start supplementing at 4 months. ?We switched from regular to gentlease because Orion had problems with gas. ?Target makes a formula that is the exact same as enfamil gentlease that is half the price. ?They do a direct comparison right on the can and Orion had no problems with it.

  • :::butting in too:::::  we also use Enfamil..  It's cheaper and they have better coupons...  They carry both at Costco...  Luca has A/R and generic seemed to bother him..  if you can get away with generic formula do it..  They are all monitored by the FDC and have to contain a minimum amount of necessary vitamins and minerals.  Our doctor says to feed your child the least expensive formula that they will tolerate.  Costco generic is $19 for 2 cans..  the best deal ever.  Too bad little man won't drink it :(
  • butting in...hahaha =)

We used similac because that's what they gave us a whole bunch of at the hospital (2 oz ready to feeds).  So would only drink ready to feed and refused the powder stuff.  I saw that she liked similac, so why switch.  Then found out that my brother works for the company that makes similac (abbott), and I got the formula at cost!  It was really cheap and it would come home with 8-10 cases at a time.  So that's the only reason why I used similac.  I got the same amount of coupon checks for both.  One think that I did like about enfamil was that they had 4 oz ready to feed bottles which would have been great for me for travel.

I believe that they are similar.  Not sure about the generic stuff though... but then again, I'm kind of weird when it comes to generic brand food or medicine.  Everyone says it's the same thing, but it's not to me and I can always tell the difference.

  • We use the Generic (Target or Parent's Choice) brand and have never had any issues.  Costco brand was the only one we didn't like...it seemed really foamy.
  • My sister used Emamil with her kids. (not a very scientific reason, eh?) We now use the generic version of it from Target. It is $12 a large can!!! They also have the "Gentlease" version at Target for like $14 a large can. I have been using generic since Joe was about 2 months old.

  • butting in as well...

we tried enfamil, similac and good start.  Of the three, DS did the worst on similac, he did ok on enfamil but did great on good start.  Good start has special proteins that basically have the formula already partially broken down so it is easier for babies to digest.

so, you may have to try out several different brands before you find the perfect fit.

I also used the Target brand of Enfamil Gentlease around 6 mos (that is when I saw it at the store). I started to use Enfamil because the hospital gave her the 22 calorie formula when she was a preemie so we just kept going with it. Also we got a lot of coupons for it.

  • Another Target Enfamil generic user here.  Both kiddos did great on it and it really is half the price.
