Bloody poop update

So weare still dealing with green mucousy poop with blood in it and waiting for the lab results to comeback. More and more I think it might be a milk allergy and I've cut out dairy from my diet. I'm so frustrated that we don't know what it is yet.the pedi didn't mention an allergy and was set on it being bacterial, but it's been since last Thursday and he had hives on his face after the soy formula last night. Ughhhh. He's been sleeping with me til I know he's not in pain. So much for sleep easy! Lol!

Re: Bloody poop update

  • Yeah I plan on it I the labs come back neg. and he won't look into it being an allergy. We should know tomorrow .
  • I hope you get an answer soon. It sounds like a milk allergy to me (DS has one as well). 50% of babies with a milk allergy also have an allergy to soy as well!

  • Are you on nutragimen formula? What do you use?
  • Yes, Max is on Nutramigen and has been for a couple of months. He seems to be doing pretty well on it. I just hate the cost, that stuff is expensive!
  • I am sorry to hear this. My DS has milk intolerance and his poo looked a lot like what you are describing. Sadly my little man was also spitting up blood too. But we went on Similac Alimentum and he has been doing great on it! When we had to switch to formula from breastmilk, I was given the option of cutting out all dairy out of my diet --which included ANYTHING with milk products in it (so you'd have to read labels) and that it would take a week or two to clear my system of the dairy. My DH is gluten-free so we already are dealing with diet restrictions, so we decided to go with formula. The Alimentum is expensive, but it is worth it to have a healthy LO. Good luck to you guys!
  • DS has a milk allergy. I've been dairy free since he was 5 weeks or so.  Then after giving him a bottle of soy formula one day and then eating a whole mess of soy cream cheese (me, not him).  I realized he is sensitive to soy as well.  So now I've cut that as well.  Which is really hard because there is soy in EVERYTHING.

  • Our LO has a milk protein allergy.  If your pedi won't even consider the fact that it might be an allergy, ask to be referred to a pedi GI specialist.  We were referred, and she knew right away that was what the blood in his stool was stemming from.  I cut dairy out of my diet and when we supplement, LO gets Nutrimigen.  We have not seen any blood in his stool since we saw the GI specialist and I made the diet changes, and that was six weeks ago.
