Nasal congestion...when is it cause for concern?

LO has been congested since week one (we are on week 6).  It started to go away last Friday, but is back, and I fear this time it's my fault.  Our pediatrician gave us the green light to take him out of the house.  Her only caution was to avoid indoor crowded spaces ( her example was a Pacers game).  It was a beautiful, but windy day in Indy on Saturday so we bundled him up, and took him downtown...to a crowded space outside.  After beating myself up for the last two days thinking he has a cold, I thought I'd check to see what the difference between a cold and congestion is...he doesn't have a fever and his boogers are white/clear.  Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated :)

  • I dont think a cold should last 5 weeks. Maybe allergies? Make an appt with his ped.

  • Our little one had congestion for the first two weeks, and same thing, clear drainage.  Our pediatrician told us to use a cool mist humidifier in his room at night.  We also use the bulb suction to clear his nose 1-2 times a day.  After about 3 or 4 nights, his congestion has decreased dramatically!  Worth a shot!  GL!

  • Sorry, in my mommy haze, I think I confused my question.  LO has had simple nasal congestion for weeks - nothing we were worried about since it started to subside after using nasal drops, a vaporizer and a bulb syringe.  I'm just curious when basic congestion becomes a cold...all I have found is "in addition to a runny nose, a fever of 100 or higher, and a cough".  Just wondered if anyone's pedis told them to watch for anything else.  Thanks a million:)
