Sleeping in their crib...how soon is too soon

Do any of your babies already sleep in their crib?? My son is almost 6 weeks ad I am going back to work in 2 weeks, I would really like to create some vague sense of normalcy in my household when I go back to work, I was thinking about starting next week and seeing how it goes...any advice?

  • If he'll do it, go for it. Some people bring their babies home from the hospital and put them straight in the crib. My daughter isn't a fan of hers yet. We've tried on a few seperate occasions but she just won't stay asleep. I finally had a stroke of genious and just moved her RNP to the nursery. Now mommy and daddy get restful sleep without all of her grunts and groans and she's getting used to sleeping in a room by herself.

  • In theory, it's never too soon.  DD has been in hers since we came home from the hospital.

  • We started working on it right away and DD spends a majority of her nights sleeping in her crib. Last night was her first full night where she slept in her crib from 10pm until 5:30, waking up only for feedings and going straight back down after.  If she's not sleeping in her crib at night, I'm holding her in the recliner in her room.  For naps, she sleeps in the newborn napper in her pnp.

  • Mine went into hers around 4 weeks with no trouble at all. In fact, I think she preferred it to sleeping in the pnp.

  • My LO has been sleeping in his crib since he was 3 or 4 days old. He does pretty well with it; he just has to be sound asleep before laying him down. If he is even the least bit awake he starts crying after a few minutes (when he realizes he is alone lol).

  • DD has been in sleeping in her crib at night since 2 weeks, I figured sooner better than later since I didn't want her to get too used to sleeping in the bassinet.  I do sleep in her room though and I put her down when she is asleep.

  • Not sure what the "experts" say, but we used the bassinet part of the pnp up until 2 nights ago (25 days old) and decided to try his crib for a variety of reasons.  The least of which not being that I am the only one who needs to get up with him during the night and he can be a noisy sleeper.  I am also pretty sure that the mattress in the crib is a lot better for him than the ones in the travel yard.  Luckily, he took to it right away and has had the best 2 nights sleep since we first brought him home as a newborn.

Also, we didn't just throw him in there cold turkey - we let him try it out with no pressure to sleep and made it a really positive, happy experience and took him out before he had a chance to get fussy or bored.  When he did go down for a nap, there was no fussing so we decided to try the night and it happened to work out for us.

    Good luck!

  • This is great to know,. My husband cannot sleep with the boys in the room with their grunting and noises he constantly checks on them so we are planning to move them to their nursery today or tomorrow.

  • Go for it! DD was in her crib the day we came home. I can't imagine having her in our room. Whenever we stay with my parents and she has to be in our room none of us sleep!

  • I put both of my girls in the crib their first night home from the hospital.  I think he will be fine and there shouldn't be any issues.

  • My baby spent her first night in her crib. I always fear that me or her daddy might accidentally roll over on her so the crib was best.
