Babywise - Awake time?

For those of you following Babywise, what do you do to keep baby awake during "awake time?"  The past couple of days, DD has been falling asleep after feeding and I can't seem to keep her awake to do tummy time.  This seems to be a new thing.

What do you do?  I'm afraid if I let her sleep too much n the day, we won't be working towards STTN, and goodness knows I can't wait for a nice 5, 6, 7, or 8 hour stretch of sleep!  She is only 4 weeks, so maybe I'm being too concerned.

  • typically, the better they sleep during the day, the better they sleep at night.  If she falls asleep, let her - it shouldn't affect the nighttime.

  • We don't ever try to keep her awake. We very loosely follow the EASY routine. If she falls asleep after her bottle, we let her nap and try for an activity next time she's up.

What I've learned is that if she gets good naps during the day, she sleeps longer and better at night. It's the opposite for adults but babies will get overtired if they don't sleep a lot during the day.

  • I sit her up on my legs and talk to her/move her arms and legs. If she's really out I just let her sleep and try again the next cycle. I agree with PP that better naps mean better nights, but awake time really helps distinguish day from night for my LO.

    Hope that helps a little!

All of this. We were having the opposite problem, where LO just would not nap for longer than 45 mins. Thankfully, he was still sleeping 8-9 hours at night. Today he did better with his naps, so I'm hoping his nighttime sleep is even longer tonight. He has gone as long as 10 hours, so I'm hoping we'll be there consistently pretty soon.

Because you're mine, I walk the line....
