TTC-any pointers???

hello, my DH and i have been TTC for almost a year now. I tried OPKs for a few months and I have been lurking and posting a little on the TTC board, but figured it wouldnt hurt to see if you all had any pointers on what you think might have really helped. I know some suggestions were green tea, pom juice, temping, etc..

TIA

Re: TTC-any pointers???

  • this was my 4th month ttc.  the first 3 months i was dead set on doing everything to get pg right away (already have 3 year old).  this month i just kinda stopped temping and really focusing on it.  we bd'd cd 11, 12, 13 and that's it. (i actually left town after that and thought we missed our window).  and low and behold, i didn't get af and tested!  i say if u kinda know when u ovulate every month, just stop focusing on it... and just bd every day or every other day around your fertile window.  hope this helps :)

  • We were ttc for 7 months and every month I tried everything like others listed above.  The 7th month, I decided to stop everything and it happened.  Sometimes trying all sorts of things stresses you out more then you realize and can't put a brick wall in front of your goal.

  • After ttc for almost 18 months we scheduled and appointment with a fertility specialist.Till then i used opks ,charted my temps and then had sex during my ovulation days and then had a pillow underneath my butt and tried almost everything that is on the internet thinking it might help. The cycle i got pregnant was a long one and since i had already booked my appointment with the fertility specialist i was feeling relaxed thinking that help is here. This one last month i got to try and then i am going to leave it to the doctors.I just took an opk the day before the appointment with my doctor. After seeing my doctor i was much more relaxed and me and hubby decided to enjoy having sex rather than "trying".Only thing i did differently was i used preseed.Dint use pillow under my butt afterwards just relaxed and enjoyed with my hubby. And also that was the only two week wait that i dint try and analyse each and every symptoms. We relaxed had a small trip and then enjoyed with our friends.Soon enough i had cramping for two days and then it completely stopped two days before my expected period. So i went in and took a test and sure enough it was a positive. All i can say is that i stopped charting and just used my opk once that too to tell my fertility specialist when i ovulated.I dint take the opks for three continous days as usual.I distracted myself from the two week wait (which i knw was nt possible had i not changed my schedule).Used preseed. Hope this helps. :)

  • After trying everything for eight months, I highly recommend having sex.

  • Hi, similar story here. I charted temperature for a few months just to ensure that I was, in fact, ovulating and about the time of month that I was trending to ovulate. Then I stopped temping. DH was on a business trip at just the wrong time for a few months and then we just enjoyed ourselves. I didn't get my period, tested, and it came out negative for about 2 weeks straight! Finally after 3 weeks, with no period I called and scheduled an appointment with my GYN to get myself checked out and find out why I was not menstrauting (and not pregnant). That night, I felt my first pregnancy symptom, we tested again (for the first time that week) and it came out positive! I quickly changed the appointment to an OB visit. Apparently after many months of ovulating regularly, I ovulated 3 weeks late that cycle and got pregnant. Had I been trying to temp or time our sex perfectly, we may have missed the the golden opportunity :)

Before TTC, I would go to the bathroom after sex to help clean myself up. I stopped doing that once we were TTC and made sure to lie in bed for at least 15 minutes afterwards: No pillow behind my back, no leg raises, just lying flat. I would also recommend relaxing and enjoying yourselves. If you can, try to have sex about every other day or more often, paying more attention to one another than just TTC.

I am having trouble updating tickers--But I am due on April 2015. I have 2 older step children: 9 and 14 yrs and I also recently had 2 younger children: 2 years and 1 year... so this means I will be having 3 under 3--and trying to fit our family of 7 into our minivan--eek!

gosh Andrea! You make it sound so simple. :)

OP, I recommend charting and tracking CM and CP. Thats how we got our timing down. GL!

  • Have you been to see your general practitioner or OB for a check-up? It can't hurt to make sure your blood work and everything looks ok. I've had several friends who tried for awhile before learning they needed thyroid medication or had an issue that needed to be taken care of in order to be able to get pregnant.

Charting is always a good idea for people TTC, but if there is an underlying issue that needs to be checked out, it can save you a lot of frustration.

This doesn't make any sense to me. If you had been temping then you would have known that you ovulated later than normal and would have known not to test for those two weeks. My personal opinion is that consistently taking your temperature is the best way to know what's going on with your body and to get pregnant. (Assuming there are no serious fertility issues that require medical intervention with either partner.)

I also agree that suggesting that "relaxing" can help someone get pregnant could end up in an exercise of futility for them and isn't helpful.

  • Try not to focus on it so much. I know they say do it on your most feritle days ect but you should maybe try every other day esp closer to your fetrtile days.

  • Not sure if it was what really worked or not but I downloaded the "womanlog" on my smartphone. I started tracking my periods. Then it tells you on there what day of the month is your "ovulation forecast". We had sex that day, in the evening when your body temp is usually higher. That was the day last month we apparently conceived.
