My DH and I have the name for our second son narrowed down to two similar names. I adore Bennett, but he is hesitant b/c one of his good friends is Ben (Benjamin) and two of his coworker's kids are named Ben and Bennett it too similar. I've told him that we don't have to nn him Ben (I prefer the full Bennett anyway), but he thinks everyone will call him that regardless.
DH loves Beckett, which I do like but I think Bennett rolls off the tongue better. I also am not fond of the nn Beck, which DH thinks is an awesome nn, LOL.
What do you think? Bennett or Beckett? I'm afraid we might have to go back to the drawing board yet again...
Re: Bennett or Beckett
Love both of these names, but prefer Beckett, mostly because I *adore* the nn "Beck."
Agree with PP that Bennett will ultimately get shortened to "Ben," which is nice enough, but very common.

I wouldn't worry about other people having the name Ben - don't let that stop you from using the name if you both like it. Neither are my style, I don't like the last name sound of them, a little bit pretentious IMO, but if I had to choose, I think I'd go with Beckett.
I do think that perhaps you should toss them and go back to the drawing board though if neither of you really love the other's choice...perhaps it would be best to keep looking until you find the perfect name for you both.

I do agree that coworker's names (and even his friend's name--who isn't an extremely close friend) shouldn't matter, but DH won't let it go and I absolutely don't want to force him into a name. I've kept Bennett on my list since DH has always liked it, but not loved it for the 'Ben' reasoning.
I feel like we've read all the baby book names and websites a million times over and I'm nervous to go back to the drawing board, especially since we keep coming back to these two names. We still have 10 weeks to find 'the one', but we might end up having to do what PP said and a flip a coin since they're so similar. :-)
I really like the name Beckett! There a kid at my child care center I work at with that name. However, a word of caution. The nickname I've taken up for him is Becky Boy, which some may not like because of the girls name Becky. Also, almost every child under the age of 3 calls him Bucket, simply because the "e" sound is not something that comes easily for kids with the "b" and "ca" sound around it.
But I do like it!
