3rd Trimester

Finally made my decision on vbac vs c-section

I have decided to schedule the c-section for 39 weeks. If I go into labor before then and my cervix is favorable (and the baby is head down) I'll attempt a VBAC.

My OB does not want me to go past my due date. DS was delivered by c-section after a l-o-n-g labor with failure to progress and a large baby that didn't tolerate my contractions. I hope that I'll go into labor on my own with this one a little early but if not, I'm VERY comfortable with repeating the c-section.

GL to the other ladies that are contemplating what to do!

Re: Finally made my decision on vbac vs c-section

  • Hey, good luck with everything.  I posted about the same thing down below:  Better 1/2 Re: VBAC.  I'm doing the same thing as you.  My only fear is going through a long labor and then needing the c/s anyway.  I scheduled my c/s at my appointment today.

  • GL to you!

I don't have that option. Have to have my 3rd c-section in December. Had 2 scheduled already because both girls were breech. I would have liked to have had the option to VBAC though.?

  • mrskadams~Good luck to you as well! I have the exact same fear.....My OB assures me that if he thinks the baby isn't in a good position (DS was sunny side up) or that my cervix isn't looking favorable he'll veto the vbac anyway. That kinda helps me feel better...Hope everything works out for ya!
  • Harriet....2 breech babies! I bet that was something else finding out that your 2nd was breech. Do you know if your 3rd is head down? (Not that it matters, I'm just curious.) Hope your 3rd c-section goes well and that recovery is easy:)
  • I made the same decision.  Like you I was in labor for a long time (32 hours) with my son and he just wouldn't come out.  I think OB said something about him being stuck behind my bladder?  He was willing to attempt a VBAC.  He kind of convinced me that it would be easier on my body.  Also, being able to plan my son's schedule, etc.  We have yet to set a date.  I was hoping we'd know by now.  I am due 12/15 so he said we'd go a week prior.  We will see.  GL to you!
  • Hey - congrats on making the decision. I too have a decision to make but I am really committed to trying a VBAC unless I either go overdue or the baby is estimated to be over 9 lbs.  I think it is good to be flexible because then you won't be disappointed either way. At least we'll know what a C-section is like if we have to have another one.  My DS was also huge & posterior so it sounds like we were in similar situations.  Let's hope for smaller babies this time around!! I have no idea. I "think" this baby is breech too, but I can't be certain. I won't have another u/s, so I find out the day of my scheduled c-section.......I was told that if this baby is breech also, that it's my uterus that's not allowing a baby to turn into position. I just want to see if that's true.......?

  • Good luck to you. I am in the same boat as you except I chose to go to schedule my c-section at 40 weeks instead of 39. Dr doesn't want me going past my DD either. I hope all goes well for you.
