Anyone else not introduced juice?

Our pedi recommended waiting on juice until 1 year.  At that point, we were trying to introduce WCM and struggling with that a little.  I wanted to wait until we got him drinking WCM before introducing anything else.  He is drinking WCM pretty well now, but I just don't know that I want to do the juice thing.  He eats a ton of fruit- loves it!  He poops just fine too, so is there any real reason to introduce it?

Re: Anyone else not introduced juice?

  • Kami really doesn't drink juice.  I did watered down apple juice on a plane back around Thanksgiving and the baby sitter gave him watered down OJ once, which I otherwise wouldn't have approved, but whatever.  We do give him watered down prune juice every so often to help with poops.  Otherwise he's strictly WCM and water.

  • A has never had juice.  His pedi said he doesn't need it and I am ok with him just having milk and water.

  • When J was 10 months old my mom watched him while my sister &i went shopping. When I got home I asked what was in his sippy cup since it looked funny. She had given him a full sippy of straight orange juice, not watered down at all. I was pissed. Since then he's only had juice a few times and it is always when my mom comes over.

  • He's only had sips of DH's juice once in awhile. I don't give it to him in his sippy (though I've been tempted to while he's been sick since he's not drinking milk and I don't want him dehydrated but he's been drinking water so we'll stick with that for now).

  • Nope, she loves milk & water.  I don't see the need for her to get hooked on sweet drinks.

She did have Mountain Dew from FIL once.  Awesome, thanks.

  • My 3 yr old doesn't even drink juice. I just don't see the point! He's had it here and there, but why really bother? DS2 just drinks WCM. I don't even give him water- I forget!

  • No juice here, either. I just don't see the point. She drinks water fine and takes sips of milk here and there, and eats a diverse diet including lots of fruit, so there's not a need for it for hydration or nutrition.

  • Ds has been only had apple juice a couple times and doesn't really care for it. He's pretty much just into his milk and water.

  • He's gotten to my older child's juice boxes and cups a few times before we snatched it back, but I've never given it to him intentionally. I didn't give it to my DD until after she turned 2. I'd like to do the same with my son but things get trickier as he gets older and sees her get things he's not!

  • No juice here either, and I won't be giving it for a long time. I'm having enough time trying to get her to drink WCM, I don't need anything else distracting her! :)

  • we haven't, even though DS doesn't like to drink ANYTHING. He will take WCM, but only from a bottle. He still nurses, but now only 2x/day. So his liquid intake is lowered. His water intake success through a sippy is minimal.

  • He's had it I think twice.  He loved it too so that's probably why we don't do it much.  It's enough struggle to get him to get calories from food so I'd rather him not fill up on juice.

  • G has had watered down juice a few times, but otherwise we stick to milk and water on a daily basis.

  • I haven't and I probably won't until years from now.
  • C has had juice maybe 2 or 3 times (really watered down apple juice) when she was severely constipated. We wanted to try something more "natural" than the harsher medications. It worked like a charm. Other than that we don't plan on introducing it anytime soon. I don't drink anything but milk and water, so I don't think she'll really care or know what she is missing out on.

  • I have not introduced juice- and probably will not for quite awhile.  I was told by a Mom of a 20 month old that all her little girl wants now is juice- no water or WCM.  So she advised me to hold off- which I am happy to take that advice.

  • Anthony has never had juice, except for last weekend when he stole his cousin's sippy that had watered down apple juice in it!

  • I still water down juice for my almost 5yr old. For the baby, I water it down like 90/10!

  • He's had some really watered down apple juice a handful of times to help with poops.

But other than that he has WCM and water. And like 2-3 days a week when my mom watches him while I'm at work she makes him smoothies for breakfast - fruit, yogurt, some juice, etc. He loves those things and it's all healthy stuff.

  • Juice has no real nutritional value and my pedi and most dentists do not recommend it at all until much later.  My DD will not get it until at least 2 1/2 or 3 and then it will be watered down.

  • LO has only had prune juice that was watered down when he was constipated.

E is having constipation issues, and he refuses to drink juice.  We've tried carrot and pear.

However, he will gobble up pureed prunes.

  • She once had a sip of my apple cider.

Otherwise, she gets milk and water. I have enough trouble getting her to drink those, I don't see the need for juice. She poops just fine.

  • No juice for us here.  He's not a big solids eater so I definitely don't want to fill up his stomach with non-nutritional calories.
