Trying to Get Pregnant

Laparoscopy and Motility Percentage

Hello Ladies, and Happy Friday!

We went to the OB yesterday to talk about possible next steps since we have been trying for the past 6 months. We have been working with our doctor for about a year , due to my past medical history. Since I'm having a scope done of my bladder and will be sedated, he offered to due a laparoscopy since I'll already to under and will work with my urologist to schedule. We also had an SA done on DH, his motility was 50% which is right at the normal cut off.

Since this all happen with-in two days, I'm just trying to take everything in. Has anyone had a laparoscpy before HSG, did you feel it was a good decision? Also any advice on recovery after laparoscopy, how bad were your scars? Thoughts on the motility %? TIA

Re: Laparoscopy and Motility Percentage

  • I am of virtually no help as I've not had a lap, but my RE told me I had to have the HSG done before I have a myomectomy because they can't always detect a blocked tube in surgery and need to be able to fix it during the surgery if there is an abnormality on the HSG.  I'm sure every doctor is different, but just thought I'd throw in what she said. GL on your surgery!

I had a lap done years ago to diagnose endo.  The scars were teeny tiny, I doubt you can even see them anymore (it's been 10 years, but they probably were completely gone within 1 year).  As far as recovery, expect to feel crappy for a few days.  I think it took a full week before I could say I felt absolutely fine.  They filled my abdomen with carbon dioxide in order to get a better view of things inside, and while the gas will escape, a small amount typically doesn't for a while so shoulder pain from the leftover gas is common.

I was probably a bigger baby than most though as one incision was at my belly button and belly buttons completely gross me out.  I hated knowing there was an incision there and I hated changing the bandaid.  So some of my extra days of feeling crappy might have been due to feeling icked out over my belly button.  Good luck!

  • I had a lap done in July.  I think it's odd that he is wanting to jump into that if you don't have any symptoms after just 6 months.  Unless you are over 35.  But to answer your question, I felt like myself after about a week of recovery.  I do have two tiny scars but you really have to be looking for them to see them.  As the PP said, the worst pain is the pain from the gas.  My shoulders hurt pretty bad for about two days.

  • I've had 3 laps done for endo. I have 3 very small scars (one in my belly button and the other two are on the right & left sides of my abdomen). As PP said, the worst part for me was the shoulder pain, since they fill your abdomen up with carbon dioxide to make it easier for them move around. Good luck with the lap!

  • I also had a lap surgery done last april for endo. My recovery was not as nice but my endo was horrible. I felt like I had a bowling ball in my stomach for 2 weeks after my surgery. The gas pain was not as bad for me just annoying. It took me 3 months or more to recover, but like I said the endo was bad and they took chunks of my ovaries out and a large amount stuck from my womb to the nerves in my back.

BUT my scars are tiny and almost gone. Hope that doesn't scare you I'm sure yours will be alot better.
