New SAHM in Raleigh, what to do now?

After a lot of careful thought and consideration I told my boss I was resigning this week. Ultimately I decided that climbing up the corporate ladder wasn't for me anymore and didn't want to miss anymore of Jack's life. One of the drawbacks to this is pulling him out of daycare. My LO really loved being in daycare with all of the other kiddies. He is super social and I feel terrible he will not be getting to interact with other babies every day.

What are some (fairly low cost) activities in the Triangle that DS and I can do together to meet and play with other mommies and LOs? FYI: Jack is 9 months old.

  • We have a play group that was formed through this board and we meet a few times a month, you can page akpriss and she can add you to the board. Most of the kids are older but we have some new babies, my son is almost 8 months and there is a 10 month old little girl and a few of the moms are about to have babies.

Other than that you can look into story time at the library, or at Barnes and Noble, doing free trial classes at Gymboree or Little Gym, also Raleigh Parks and Rec offer some classes as well.

  • Library story time

Tot time through Raleigh Parks & Rec (FREE open play at various gyms, we've been to Laurel Hills and Lake Lynn)

Barnes & Noble has free storytimes

Play & Learn Toys in Triangle Town does storytime or Kindermusik classes, i think each week and are free.

If you join Triangle Mommies (a free web forum) they have local play dates and park dates.

You can visit places like Marbles, Life & Science Museum in Durham, Science museum in Raleigh, Kidventurz, Playnation etc just to get out!

  • Carolina parent emails me weekly with free and low cost activities. Also, we get a booklet twice a year with a tremendous amount if low cost things tori with kids as well as for adults and seniors. The booklet is for Garner, but if you are not close by, maybe there is something close to you? They always have fun stuff listed, family movie night, camp outs. nature preserv, mommy and me yoga, tons of stuff. My daughter is 3 months, too young to enjoy, but we can not wait!
  • I second Triangle Mommies.  They divide you by area and then you can go to play dates specifically for your child's age but you are free to go to any play date on the calendar.
