DS was and is a tiny kid so we waited until he maxed it out at 20 lbs. He was a year old. At that point we weren't taking it out of the car to carry him around in it though.

Skyla was only 19.5lbs at a year so she stayed in it for that long and then we just bought a front facing one (I know front bad yada yada yada). Arianna is much bigger though. Our infant goes up to 22lbs (and 27in) and I'm still not sure if she'll make it to a year. She's was 12lbs and 24inches at 2 months.
Well, my dd was still under the weight limit for our infant carrier at 2 (it was 22 lbs). At around 10 months we switched her to rear facing anyway, because she just looked so mad in there. She didn't get to turn forward until 22 months.
7 months for both of them. ?Our snugride goes to 22 pounds, but neither were that close in weight. ?Evan had gone over the height limit (29 inches) by that point, though. ?I thought I might get more use out of it with Bennett, because he was smaller, but I found that by 7 months, he'd no longer stay asleep in the infant seat if I brought him in somewhere. ?That was the only advantage I could see to just using the convertible, so I switched him.
If he'll stay asleep in it when you move him out of the car, I'd keep him in the snugride as long as he'll fit. ?The only problem is that it's a beast to lift a heavy baby in that thing. ?Evan was a little over 19 pounds when we moved him.?
We moved Jackson at 8 months. We had a SafeSeat, though, and it goes up to 30lbs/32 inches I think. My big concern was always the height limit though for Jackson.
I checked his 9 month stats - he was 24lbs, 31 inches. So we moved him when he was an inch away from the height limit.

We haven't moved DS yet. He's just over a year, was only 18.5 pounds at his one year appt, so we're keeping him in for a little bit longer. Even though we usually don't use it as a carrier anymore, it does come in handy when he falls asleep.

DD was 4 months old. We had been given a brand-new Roundabout for her for Christmas. She HATED her carrier, so we thought we'd try her in the Roundabout and it was a dream come true (for both of us!). So we just left her in it and ditched the carrier.
Mom to J (10), L (4), and baby #3 arriving in July of 2015
