? and a vent

My 3yo daughter has had a rash on her face for almost a year now.  We have taken her to the doctor 2 times and were prescribed 2 different medicines for a funal infection.  It still didn't seem to be going away - so I took her again yesterday.  We saw a 3rd doctor - he said he thinks she has herpes.  I am not really sure of this because the rash hasn't been gone for more than a week at a time during the past year which would not be the case with herpes (I hate even typing this word).  So now we have medicine for that.  If the rash goes away but comes back quickly or doesn't go away we will be referred to a dermatologist.

Do any of you get cold sores or get rashes on your face randomly and know that it is from the herpes virus?  I guess it's pretty common.  But I worry about the rest of us catching it.  I wish if it is herpes that we would have known about it a long time ago.  The other 2 doctors didn't even mention that was a possibility.  Just frustrated mostly for getting 3 different diagnoses in the past year and just wanting to be done with this stinking rash.

Venting over (for now!)

  • I do know that cold sores and fever blisters on your lip comes from herpes. And you can spread that by sharing chapstick and stuff. But I've never heard of that on the face. I would be pretty frustrated as well if I had to go through all of that. Hopefully, they will find the cause soon!

This.  I've got the whole cold sore nastiness and I can safely say that it's never been around longer than a week or two even without treatment.  And I've never heard of it on anyone's face, but then again I don't no anyone who'd advertise face-herpes.  This seems like the least likely scenario to me.  I hope that you get to see a dermatologist and get this cleared up soon

  • Thanks guys.  I have been looking up oral herpes online - what she has doesn't really look like any of the pictures I've found.  I really hope we figure it out soon - it's not a terrible rash, but she's been dealing with it for so long.  Then we could all stop worrying about catching herpes from her too!

  • If it never goes away, doesn't that seem like an allergy or something?
