During my first pregnancy, I had salmon (low mercury) once a week. This time i am super paranoid about the mercury levels...Wondering if anyone else is feeling the same, or if I am being crazy ?
I've avoided fish for most of my life. But that's because I don't like it. I doubt you need to completely avoid it. Make sure it's cooked properly, you should be good.
Its actually been shown that the selinum in Fish like Salmon balance out the mercury in the fish. My husband has spent my whole pregnancy lecturing me on this lol. Also my doc told me some fish is fine in moderation.
I'm still eating fish. I haven't had mako or swordfish, because I hear they're higher. I've also avoided lox (sniff) because of the nitrates. But everything else is fair game.
I can't get the ticker to work, but I have two sons:
No. I eat tuna salad sandwiches about once a week, maybe a bit less. I had shrimp today. I would eat salmon often, but I am the only one who likes it. So..it is mostly chicken, beef or vegetarian meals at our house.
Eating fish in moderation is great for the baby. The Omega 3 fatty acids help the baby brain develop. Actually, getting O3 is the only thing that has been proven in studies to help brain growth and influence intelligence in utero (sorry to all those who think playing classical music to your belly will make the baby smart, it won't).
I haven't had ANY seafood, I'm too paranoid because of the mercury. I'm not controlled enough to only eat 6 oz, I'd end up eating a whole tank. It's better this way.
No. We have cod once a week, not even. We had scallops last weekend. I just try not to eat the fish that are on the "do not eat" list because of mercury levels.
My dr. told me not to eat tuna, and I had a can of light tuna earlier in my pregnancy. She told me that that gotta be the last time and to only eat salmon. I had salmon and tilapia a few times and plan to have these occassionally. I'm not sure if wild or farmed salmon is better...
Nope - fish is actually really good for LO because it helps with brain development! You just have to make sure that you're picking low mercury fish (e.g., avoiding tuna or salmon) and that it's fully cooked. This is a good site to go by, I've found:

Heh, me too. I hate fish, but I was told I could eat low mercury fish every once and a while. I said "No thanks!"
Re: Are you avoiding fish?
Nope, I ate a lot of low mercury fish last time and will do the same this time.

I had cod for dinner last night.
I also read a couple of days ago that chunk light tuna is lower in mercury than solid white.
