How much will you spend on DC Christmas/Holiday presents?

This will be DD's first Christmas and while I hate how commercial the holidays have become, I fall victim to it every year and LOVE to give Christmas presents!

I will make sure DD learns the "reason for the season" but we will do the whole Santa deal...mostly for ME! Smile That being said, I was just curious about how much everyone was thinking about spending on their kids on presents.

Also, for those of you that have older kids-if you can remember-about how much did you spend on DC's first holiday?

 Thanks!

  • Sarah received WAY TOO MUCH from friends and relatives. So truthfully, we spent maybe $50...then we ended up not giving her the gifts.  We put them in the closet and have pulled them out throughout the year.

Same here.  We bought maybe one or two gifts for him, the one big gift was a Radio Flyer ride along car. Other than that, we didn't indulge him.  I figure when he gets older he'll be asking for the expensive toys so we can wait a few years to spend the big bucks, and even then we hope to keep the craziness of it to a minimum.

  • I know I spoiled her her first christmas.  Got her about 7 gifts ranging from $10 - $70.  So in total, I think I probably spent around $250.  This year, we're getting her an outdoor playground, but considering saying that that's her birthday present.  So for this Christmas, I'm thinking a play kitchen and maybe 1-2 small items.

  • we do 3 presents from us one from santa (not including about 4 stocking stuffers about $1 each).

The three presents can be anything and are usually under $10.  Her present from Santa is usually a bit bigger, around $25-40, nothing more.

This year, we budgeted $50 for her.  Last year she got around the same thing.  I'm hoping to spend less, though, cause I found a Tickle Me Elmo tha tused to be ine.  I'm probably going to wrap that up.  She'll love it!  Who cares if it's "older" and I didn't spend money on it, right?

  • Last Christmas we did very little for G, as he was only 6 weeks old.  This year we will get him gifts, but will try to keep it reasonable. Really though, G would rather play with measuring cups, lids, and spoons than any toys that we get him.
  • for Truitt's 1st Christmas, we got him 2 gifts and that was it. we don't skimp on this kid and he has a room full of nice toys and a packed closet. our plan is to always get him a couple nice things (eventually from his own wish list) but not to over indulge.

i think we are going to get him some pieces to Plan City this year and I plan on spending about $200. then his birthday is the next month...

  • we spent about 50 last year and it will be the same this year. her 1st christmas she was only a few weeks old so I don't think we did much (I actually don't remember). her birthday is around the same time and I don't think at this age she'll really differentiate between the two gift giving occasions (especially because she'll have a family party near christmas when we're at my parents)

  • As of now, we're planning to get her 2 big presents. One is about $75 and the other is $50. But DH and I are cutting back on our gifts to each other since we're on a tighter budget now (one income).

  • We didn't spend very much on Reagan last year. Probably under $50. She got enough from everyone else. I'm having a hard time this year because everything I want to get her costs more then I want to spend. I'm sure we will narrow it down. Besides, I know if I tell MIL that I wanted to get Reagan a kitchen but am not going to that she would buy her a nicer one then I would.  Wink
