Ethan was finally transferred to the rehab facility today!!
It was a little bittersweet. We are so excited for him to be moving on to the next chapter and on the path to coming home, but it was sad leaving the NICU where we have spent so much time and gotten to know everyone so well.
At rehab, they will aggressively work on weaning him off the vent and teach us how to take care of him at home with the trach. He will also get physical therapies for his legs and oral feeding therapies. This is definitely going to be a great place for him! He may end up being there anywhere from 6-12 weeks, but at least we are moving forward
Re: After 166 days in the NICU...
Our precious girl, born at 27 weeks.
Congrats and best of luck on this next chapter! We look forward to lots of updates and stories about Ethan's progress and homecoming!
ps - I must say that I was surprised at the sadness I felt leaving our NICU. It's bittersweet for obvious reasons, but to this day I feel such a connection to, and appreciation for, our wonderful medical team. I still keep in touch with my primary nurse and one other one, and every time I send them a picture or update I feel like it's a nod to the amazing work they do. So, my advice - keep in touch with yours!!!!
