Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

does your child have a scarf? why can't I find one?

Think I tried to find one too soon, and now I'm too late. I have no idea, but I can't find a scarf for DS. I don't want anything fancy, a piece of fleece would be fine. I would make one but I am not crafty. On line all I see are one's for $50-60, which is ::coo-coo coo-coo::

  • DD has one from the Gap.
  • Loading the player...
  • I cant find any either! I thought it was they weren't selling them for safety reasons so I was going to take up knitting or cut one of mine down.

The same thing crossed my mind. I was looking for one, when I couldn't find one I was like, "oh crap...Am I looking for something that is a hazard = they don't sell for children" Didn't want to ask the lady at target for fear they would call CPS.

...then I thought, dude, how is he gonna play in the snow with no scarf? Come on.

I made one for DS.  I actually made a little cowl scarf for him so it stays in place.

Ok, I'm not crafty but I did make one of those fleece blankets. What is a cowl scarf? Is there a how to video to watch or super easy directions I can follow.

I mean, super easy. Written in crayon.

  • DD started getting really interested in my scarves, so my mom knit one for her.  To be honest, it's kind of a PITA.  Her snow suit already zips right up to her neck, so any extra fabric from the scarf is too bulky.  She also doesn't love the feeling of something wrapped around her neck.

She mostly just drapes it over her shoulders and wears it around the house now.

  • I made DS a bandana-style bib kind of like this for his birthday (you can kind of see it in my siggy). It works well as a scarf, too.

The Nest/Bump sucks and won't let me change my location. I'm in Arkansas, not Florida.
  • My LO has a version of scarves like this: https://www.knitsandbitsbylinda.com/keyhole-scarf-boa.html

There's a little hole in one end that the other end fits through.  It's easy and she never pulls it off.

I have a blog and it isn't about babies or motherhood or my life. It's just about eating, drinking, and traveling: Explore and Eat

  • It might be tough this late in the season, but you can find them in the boys or girls section of the store, I don't think they have them in the infant/toddler sections for choking reasons.

  • I've never heard of scarves for toddlers.  Wouldn't that be some kind of safety issue?  I mean, if they don't make belts because kids can choke themselves, then they probably don't make scarves either.

is that why most shoes are velcro and not shoe laces?

  • They're sold out now, but I got this one for DS.  It's a gaiter, not a scarf, so I don't think it's as much of a safety concern.  I like that it's not as bulky, it's easy to adjust, and I think he tolerates it better than he would a scarf.  Maybe you could find one somewhere else or make something similar.

A gaiter? Never even heard of it! So sad...That would be totally perfect! Thanks for this anyway, I will try to google Gaiter and see what I can find.

I'm not too worried about safety, I just him to be extra bundled when he's making snowmen with daddy or sledding (scarf not exposed, just keeping chest/throat warm)

  • Gaiters are awesome (that's what I wear when I ski) but if you want a scarf check Janie and Jack.  I was in there this weekend and they had some on clearance.  Even though it never gets that cold here my DD has been obsessed w/ scarves since we went to Santa Fe in December so I went ahead and bought her one.  She wears it around the house and loves it.
  • I think I saw some at Children's Place not too long ago.

I knit a 'Mittenscarf' for my daughter a few years ago. She still uses it.

  • My MIL bought DD a Tinker Bell one from the Disney Store for Christmas.  I know when I was looking earlier, both Gymboree and Janie and Jack had then for girls, so I assume they would for boys too.

yes, you sure would assume if they had them for girls they would have them for boys... After looking online, I'm not so sure. Jack & Jane or whatever that store is had like 10 on sale for girls, 0 for boys.
