  • I don't have an answer, but I'd love to know too. Deodorant is one of the few things I haven't yet brought myself to change to a more natural product, I'm paranoid they won't work and I'll stink.

  • I use the Trader Joes brand.  I like it a lot!

I've been using this kind too OP and I don't like it either. I never have luck with deodorant though, I'll be interested to see what other ladies use...

  • A friend of mine recommended Weleda, but I haven't had a chance to get it yet.  She said it smells great and works well.

  • I use Crystal's brand it works really well. the down side is, that it's just a preventative deal. In first tri, when I seemed to be sweating all the time it lasted for about 8-10 hours, then I'd have to wash my armpits with a rag and start over. Now I lasts from one shower to the next.

  • Anything with tea tree oil works a bit better. We used Desert Essence until it ran out and we went back to our old stuff - I need to get more. It's still not comparable to the chemical stuff, but it does work ok.

When I was pregnant with DS, tree tea oil was not recommended for use during pregnancy.  Maybe it has changed, but you may want to check on it.

  • 1 part baking soda to one part talcum/baby powder. you can add a drop or two of your favourite smelling essential oil (a drop of pure essential oil won't kill you baby, but forego if you're scared). Apply with a powder puff. You'll stay dry and not stink.
  • be careful of anything with essential oils, particularly sage. Sage helps to stop you from sweating, so it's found in a lot of natural deodorants but it can be dangerous during pregnancy.

I make my own, as PP said, baking soda is great, but I stay away from talc. Baking soda on it's own can be really drying, but if you mix that with some shea/cocoa butter and cornstarch in a double-boiler (go heavy on the powders) you'll be moisturized and the powders will still absorb any smell/wetness. I'm not sure how well this will work in August, but for now it's just fine.

  • I use Old Spice original (the men's deodorant, red container) because I have the same issue with all-natural deodorants not helping.  It doesn't have anti-perspirant (aluminum, etc) and it has a nice subtle smell to it and I never smell bad using it.

  • I didn't know we couldn't use regular deodorant... I use a spray can one..I can't remember the name but its the only one that doesn't make my armpits itchy. It smells kinda of powdery
  • Melaleuca deoderant works wonderfully (they use tea tree oil). Need a membership to get the best deal, but I'm pretty sure you can buy without too (or ask someone you know who does have a membership!)

  • I've used the Body Shop Natural Deodorant for about a year now. It works much better than the Tom's Deodorant. The tip to the Body Shop deodorant is that more is not better. Put only one "layer" of deodorant on or your pits become "slick" once you start sweating. I live in Southern California and find that no natural deodorant can provide the exact same level of protection as traditional deodorant when the weather gets 85+. We just have to live with a different idea of fresh.

  • I've always wondered if Lavanila was worth the price. Thanks for the tip.

  • I have tried most below and they leave me still smelling like BO. The only one I have found is Arm & Hammer's Natural deodorant. It's sold at Fry's or other grocery stores and works really well.

  • I have used Toms of maine and the crystal rock deodorant that you just get wet and use it under your arms. Always worked for me!
  • I tried Tom's a couple years ago. It worked for about a day, and then I was wet and smelly and my underarm skin was PEELING. I decided to give it another try once I got pregnant and the results were the same. I switched to the liquid roll on version of the crystal deodorant, and it is amazing!

I had been using Certain Dri plus the extra strength Mitchum gel, because I sweat a LOT. At my worst several years ago I was able to wring sweat out of a shirt after a couple hours of wearing it in the dead of winter. I'm really surprised that the liquid crystal works for me, because I almost needed to involve a doctor (Mitchum + Certain Dri was only about 90% successful).
