$100 for a professional including sitting fee and all photos on a disk, no print outs. My maternity photos were $150 for everything so I think that is the average.
We spent too much on his newborn photos. ?The sitting fee was $150 and the pictures were outrageous to buy. ?$30 for each 8X10, $15 for 5X7. ?We used our wedding photographers though and they did some maternity shots just before I delivered. ?I'm glad we did them - he was so tiny and will never be that small again! ?it was a great experience but next time (within a week or 2) we're going to the babies-r-us photo place. ?

we have a member with jcpenney, so no sitting fees. we spent $100 to purchase a big package only because we had 50% off coupon so we got twice as much as we would have. Personally I think it's a little ridiculous and unnecessary to spend much more than that.
We used a professional photog for his newborn pics - $80 for a sitting fee, and I ended up spending around $200 for prints. We're going back to her for his one year pics, but in the meantime, I'll be getting the cheapo $8.99 packages at JC Penney and Target.
that's why I only buy packages with the files included! It's rediculous to spend $20 on a 5X7 when target will do it for $.29! Oh and Miracle, you can get rid of the proof letter over your photos in photoshop with the blur tool. Try it out ;-)
Not all photo places will sell you the digital proofs on CD though. My wedding photographer did, but it was $500 for the CD of those images.
Target sells you the CD for $99. I was thinking of doing that for Christmas presents this year. It would be fairly cheap to get tons of pictures printed for the family. Target isn't half bad either!
