...check to see when they're cutting teeth? Like, do they actually let you in there?
DD is one of those slowpoke teethers - she currently only has the 2 bottom teeth, which she got a week after turning 9 months old.
Well, she was screaming just now b/c she took a rough fall and I looked in her mouth while I was holding her and saw tooth #3 coming through (yay! But weirdly enough, it's her right lateral incisor - on the BOTTOM...still no top teeth yet).
So once she calmed down, I put her on the floor to try to inspect for more tooth eruptions. Squirmy little worm did the crocodile death roll on me and I couldn't get a single peek. When she was younger, I could pin her down and use my fingers to pry her jaws open to look (lol that sounds so abusive, but you know what I mean...I hope). But now when I try that, she bites me and/or pushes her tongue over her gums, lol.
So all you mommas who say "my LO's molars are coming through" / "My LO is cutting 8 teeth at once," etc. how in the world do you get a good look??
Re: How in the world do you...
I have only been able to see the front (visible) teeth. I did wash my hands and stick my finger in her mouth to see if any molars were coming in or if I could feel anything.. nothing yet.
LO has two bottom, two top and now two top incisors coming in on either side of her front teeth.
Haha, I just shove my fingers in there as quickly as possible (without much build-up to it, so he's taken off-guard) and get a count as fast as I can, praying I don't get bitten!
I used to try when brushing her teeth, but she's started taking the brush from me to "brush" them herself and so that's usually a failure. The snack is a good idea!
We do "upside down jacob" he loves to get tipped upside down and will open his mouth wide - if we need to one of us will tip him facing the other who can get a good look. He also likes to get his teeth brushed but it's harder to check there.
DS only has his bottom 2, also. I've been checking around by hanging him upside down & he cracks up & I can get a really good look at the top front that way.
The rest of his mouth, I feel around with my finger during bath time, while we're brushing teeth.
Oh my goodness, Bosha - he's so cute!! DH would love those boots.
I am now off to hang my girlie upside down. haha
We have 2 toothbrushes. One is Elmo which she tries to use. I have another one and I try to brush her teeth while she 'talks' to Elmo.
Thank you!
GL!
DH and I tag team B. One tickles him, the other tries to peer in his mouth while he's laughing. It works okay for his front teeth/gums, not so good for the molar area.
We've also been going to to pedi a lot for ear infections so I always ask her to look back there.

I totally agree with you. It's impossible to get a look in G's mouth. The only time I get a glimpse is when he's laughing.
We do this too! I'll have him on my lap facing me, then lean him back upside down! He loves it!
