XP from HR: thrombocytopenia (low platelets)

Anybody else have low platelets as a "stand alone" issue?  My doc said my counts are not drastically low or hugely concerning but they'll keep an eye on me. I had HELLP with my twins and delivered at 36 weeks, and this is how it started with them, so now I'm basically convinced I'm going to head down the same path and deliver this singleton in four weeks. I know low platelets *can* be a precursor/part of HELLP but it can also be totally benign.

SO.....anybody have low platelets and zero complications?

Re: XP from HR: thrombocytopenia (low platelets)

  • I had thrombocytopenia with the boys and did not have any complications or problems. My OB just checked my platelet count again a couple weeks after the boys were born and it was improving. I think it is fairly common and most of the time thrombocytopenia in pregnancy is pretty benign. That said, if you had HELLP with your previous pregnancy my guess is that they are going to monitor you fairly closely. Hopefully it won't progress to that.

  • Awesome! (er, not awesome that you had low platelets) but nice to hear it was a non-issue with the boys! This is making me feel much better. . .  I'm not prepared for #3 to arrive early!  thanks Jalaiaa- and yes we're getting so close!
