Zantac *was* working...

Gah.... the Zantac was doing such an amazing job at keeping the heartburn/reflux at bay, but as of Sunday, now it's not cutting it. :(

I'm hoping I can just drink more milk, eat more bland food, and stick with just Zantac, but I'm seemingly back to the point where water is even causing a problem.

You know... I would be totally great at this whole pregnancy thing if it weren't for the heartburn. It's just awful!!!

Re: Zantac *was* working...

  •  I have had heartburn since day one. I mean so bad that even with Prolisac and Tums I was still spitting up stomach acid. My MD keeps saying that's part of pregnancy. I did some research and saw someone posted about eating pickles and drinking milk. SO. GROSS> but it totally work! I kid you not. I hate pickles and made myself eat them with a large glass of milk. I found that it stopped the burn and helped me get some sleep. It can't hurt to try it right?

I've had it since the beginning too, but it was never this bad!! :( I don't care if pickles and milk tastes like total crap, I will try anything at this point! Thanks for the suggestion... I hope it works!!

  • Zantac had worked great for me also up until about the past week and I know what you mean about the water its like anything you eat gives you the awful burn but even if you don't eat it's the acid boiling up your belly and chest , horrible ...I had heartburn with my other kids but nowhere near as bad as this time. Good Luck hope you find something that works , I can't even do milk it actually has made me sick this whole pregnancy ...uhh

  • I had success with Zantac for a while, but then it stopped working.  I switched to Priolsec about 1.5 weeks ago and it is better again.  Hopefully this continues to work until the end!

  • Zantac worked for me until my 30th week then my heartburn was unbearable again.  I asked my doctor and she perscribed prevacid.  She said it was safe to take and it has been incredible.  I take it once a day and I have had absolutely no heartburn since. I am not a big fan of taking a bunch of medicine pregnant but I was miserable and it was totally worth it!  I would see if your doctor can call in a perscription for you, or ask at your next appt.

My doctor did say that I could up the dosage of Zantac. I've been taking the 75mg tablets, he said if it's bad to just take 2 at a time which is equivalent to the 150mg tablets. I'm going to try that tonight, if it doesn't work, then I will definitely be begging him to give me something stronger at my next appt!

  • I've noticed zantac isn't working as well anymore. I either have to skip a night of it so my body is like, wait a minute! where did it go? or I have to take a few tums with it and still sit up while sleeping (at least there isn't any mid night acid regurgitations though). Can't wait to feel normal again

  • I've hit the same point with water... a return to 1st tri fun!  The only water that I can have on a regular basis is Fiji because it seems to be much softer than other water.  Zantac has only failed me twice now but I really did not enjoy going back to soda crackers again.
