Odd children's music lyrics

So we got a couple cds from Grandma for A to listen to ithe car and we started listening to some old nursery rhymes, kiddie songs, etc.  well dh and I were cracking up at some of the lyrics.....who comes up with these songs?

Anyways the 2 that we found somewhat disturbing, yet still very catchy with their fun music are....  Baby bumblebee (I did have to admit to Dh that I know the actions for the song thanks to a daycare I worked in about 8 years ago).  The other song was new to both of us it was called Found a peanut.  Sorry neither song is linky to lyrics or the youtube videos.

Have any other odd type songs you have come across?

Re: Odd children's music lyrics

  • Yes! The "I went to the animal fair" song! Ahh! I think it's so weird!

    "The monkey, he got drunk,

and fell on the elephant's trunk.

    The elephant sneezed,

    and fell on his knees,

and that was the end of the monk, the monk, the monk, the monk."

(Though, as I'm looking it up on youtube, they changed the lyrics so the monkey isn't drunk, but still dies when the elephant crushes him. ha! It's totally the version I have above, though, on M's cd!)

  • For the record, "I love Found a Peanut"! :)  My DH had never heard "The Bear Went Over the Mountain", one I was singing the other day.  Am I the only one?

I think all the old nursey rhymes are crazy!  There are babies falling out of trees, horses putting together broken eggs, women beating children and men locking their wives in pumpkins...  WTF

So true!  And "Jimmy Cracked Corn" is about slavery.

And then there is "Ring Around the Rosie" about the bubonic plague.  Nice.

  • I don't know about "odd," but this lyric drives me nuts: "There was a farmer had a dog...."   Shouldn't it be, "There was a farmer WHO had a dog...?"  It's the hardest song to sing, ever!

DS has a Vtech electronic storybook that sings, "Ring around the rosie, the doggy chased the kitty, hush-a, hush-a, we all fall down". lol. The first time I heard it, I was like, ummm wtf??
