I got let go today. As in, absolutely no warning whatsoever, done. My boss came in at 4, handed me the paperwork, and informed me it was my last day. Apparently it's not a "firing" scenario, which is good. She's not replacing me or anything, it sounds like she's just downsizing... But I'm completely floored. I never ever expected this to happen, it's not like I'm in a high turnover field! We're in the middle of re-financing the house, and with the new baby coming... Not good timing!!! (Although, is it ever?) So if anyone knows someone hiring a pg Audiologist in the state of MI, let me know Tongue Tied

Lol, yeah, that's the plan for now. I'm going to file tomorrow. Plus, it's SO much fun to be applying for jobs "By the way, I'm pg and will be taking mat leave..."

ugh that stinks!! So sorry. I don't live in that area so no idea of what jobs are available. Do they do a severance package or anything though? I have been doing the job hunting and didn't mention that I'm pregnant. I think it causes too much "what if" if they don't opt to hire you. If not showing, I'd not mention it until you're in your 2nd tri. under most laws they have to give you 6 weeks anyway for maternity leave. Hope you find something soon and enjoy the extra LO time!

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry to hear about this. I am curious to know if she knows you are pregnant also. If she doesn't, would you still maybe want to let her know and see if she might agree to keep you on for a few more months until closer to the baby's arrival? This might give you and DH a bit more time to save up and plan for you to be out of work and then you wouldn't have to look so hard for a job while pregnant.

Oh, no! That totally stinks! I once got laid off from my job my first day back from vacation. For a long time after that, I was nervous every time I went on vacation! Hope you find something soon!

Oh crap, that stinks! I'm sorry. You know they say things happen for a reason, and at the time someone says it I usually want to smack them, because the comment doesn't always feel helpful, and then in hindsight, you realize but for that crappy thing, this really awesome experience wouldn't have come to me. AGH! That stinks...I am so sorry! My school district was RIFing when I was pregnant and I had to interview pregnant. I was about 20 weeks....but just looked like a fatty :O) I would suggest NOT telling perspective interviewers about being pregnant. Good luck in the process. It will all work out!!

Thanks for all the support and advice ladies. I'm still kind of reeling, it was just such a shock, you know? I don't *think* she knew I'm pg, but I guess I can't be 100% sure. I do know that she was NOT going to be excited when I told her. She doesn't have kids, and has no patience for all of the things that come with them. For example, when Liam was sick, she told me that I needed to be "more reliable" and that I should look for a "sick child daycare drop off" I could bring him to, so I didn't have to take time off work. She did offer a severance package. I'm having a lawyer friend look over it tonight to make sure it's all aboveboard.

OMGoodness, hun. I'm so sorry this happened to you. The good thing is that it is not a firing situation so you can get unemployment. There is a website that you can look into called https://www.makinghomeaffordable.gov that might help with the home situation. I'm sorry this happened to you. You can make it through this. I will never understand why employers expect you to give them 2 weeks notice but think that it is totally OK for them to tell you that you ned to be out in less than an hour. That totally stinks. Good luck!

That sucks. I got laid off when I was five months pregnant back in August, so I know how you feel.

I'm still very underemployed; I tutor and teach night classes. The truth is, it's been a blessing in disguise because I've had all this time with my son.

But I'm still pissed about how suddenly I was let go (it had nothing to do with the pregnancy... there were program cuts). And money is a lot harder. But there are ways to make due with less... you'll be surprised!

So sorry! I couldn't find a job for 2 years, and I was unable to collect unemployement for most of Landon's first year. I just found a job and stopped collecting recently when I started selling Tupperware... but if you can't find anything, it's nice to be able to still get the income while you're looking. Plus then you don't have to pay daycare!

Not that I'm encouraging anyone to mooch off society... but you should qualify for UE and I think you should keep job hunting... it can just take a while!
