Crusty noses

So I know it's gross, but this board discusses every other yucky kid bodily function, so....

what are your techniques for getting rid of the nose crust?

LO has a yucky cold (well, really, the whole house does). We do the saline spray & bulb thingy (which is a feat with a screaming, wiggly boy), and wipe the nose right away when it's snotty, but he's got some serious nose crust going on.

Re: Crusty noses

  • Boogy Wipes. Seriously - they are a bit pricey, but work like magic. They are super, super soft wipes with saline solution on them. They are unnecessarily huge for a tiny nose (the size of a normal tissue) so I usually rip it in quarters and shove the other pieces back in the container. Makes them last longer too!

  • Thanks! I thought I'd heard of something like this at some point.

Googling, and hoping the company's search engine is really right that the stores round here carry them. It would be a shame to pay shipping on an already-indulgent (but totally worth it, perhaps?) thing.

I second this. My DCP had never heard of them so I brought in a pack for them to try out and they were impressed as well.

  • Our daycare uses Boogy Wipes too.  I'm cheap so I just keep burp clothes all over the house and use those for nose wipes.  Although, in true FFFC fashion, B had a huge snot slug coming out of his nose when we were in Target yesterday.  Neither DH nor I had anything tissue-like on us.  So I just wiped his nose with my finger and then wiped my finger on the underside of my t-shirt.  It was a classy move.

Nah, they're everywhere - no worries! I've seen them in Target, Giant, WalMart, BRU, Bye Bye Baby, KMart, etc.

  • Boogie Wipes are great! They break up the crust, but Alexander would still squirm away from them. You can get them at Target!

  • I just use toilet paper, if its dried crust I use a wash cloth and get it wet with warm water.

These are worth the price. They clear away the boogies like magic.

  • Ok, so I've been living under a rock. (or a boulder of dried-up snot? Eww.)

I'll check these out next time I'm at Rite-Aid or Target. (Or now I have an excuse to make a Target run this afternoon!)

  • We use a washcloth with warm water. I haven't tried the boogie wipes, we may need to invest in these!

  • Never tried boogie wipes! For the crusties, you could use some vaseline or A&D!

  • Just another vote for the Boogie Wipes!  Not only do they work but they smell really good!

  • My husband got the big economyc anister of boogie wipes.  I made fun of him at first but we did go through all of it when he was sick. I also use it after meals because it removes food crust really easily and isn't as rough on his skin as a paper towel or washcloth.  They are very smooth.  The big canister is cheaper per unit.

I've totally done this before, probably more often than I should admit.  I'm just really bad at remembering to put tissues in my purse.
