There's now a potty in the house...so now what?

I don't know how to get started potty training. So far DD just sits in it when I go to the bathroom. Was going to wait until summer to officially start, but wanted to get her used to it. Now that it's here it seems like a bad idea to just let her sit on it with clothes on and wait. What should I be doing? She 25 months old.

At 25the months old I was asking g if she had to use the potty, but if she didn't I didn't force it, and I started bribing her with one jelly bean to sit on it, 2 to pee and 3 for poop. May not be the right/best approach but in time it got us where we needed to be. We had some success (once a week?)I with that approach over the next month or two and then put her in panties at 27 months. After a week my mil refused to do panties anymore so we went to pull ups but that effectively stopped any progress we had made. So a little after 28 months we did it again full force and I would say she was 80% trained within a week or two. Good luck!

Star with getting her to sit on it. 10-20 minutes after eating is a typical pee time so you can try then to catch something.

With DD I just started sitting her on it before bath time, then at diaper changes, then if she made her poop face. Now we use the potty successfully multiple times a day and she's poop trained now.

I never forced her to stay on the potty, we sang songs and what have you and tried to stay on there for 5 minutes but ended sooner if she wanted down.

We have just started having DS sit on it after meals and before bed when we're home to get used to it. So far, nothing, but I know it's still really early. We'll give him a few m&m's to encourage him to sit longer, but he really just sees it as a toy at this point, lol. GL!
