Nigel is a name that I have always like, but will never use. I just can't actually picture calling my little baby Nigel. I knew a Nigel and it worked well on him, but I kinda agree about the too big for a child idea. I love Hugh and Linus though.
I find Nigel to be one of those names that are a bit too pretentious/old money/the name of a butler for my liking, however it's not terrible. I love Hugh though!!
I like Nigel- actually, I like all your choices! IMO, I definitely think it's better to give a child a name to 'grow into' than something cutesy like Braylee (just an example) that they'll 'grow out of' quickly.
It's a fine name, but it's very, very, very British-sounding. I've never heard of a non-British Nigel, including fictional characters. Not that that's necessarily a problem, particularly if you happen to be British.

When I lived in Brooklyn in the ghetto, seriously ODB got shot two blocks from our apt, the family who owned the building had a nephew named Nigel. Nigel had a withered arm and was the neighborhood drug dealer. He and his sister lived on the third floor and we shared an air shaft so we could smell whenever he had customers over to sample his wares. The intercom to the building was busted so his customers would stand on the sidewalk and shout, "Nigel! Nigel!" until he would throw the keys out the window so they could get in, because the buzzer was broken too. So my association with Nigel is not snooty and British.
That said I prefer Hugh with Miles. I don't like the sound of either Linus or Nigel. I also don't like to have sibling names start or end with the same letter.
Re: Nigel?
Did you see the post yesterday about how some names are "just too big" for a child?
IMO, Nigel is one of them.
I like it.
My ignorance may be showing here, but how is Nigel "too big" for a child?
I really want to like Nigel, but unfortunately I think of Tyra Banks saying it and that makes me cringe.
I really like Linus. I do not care for Hugh.
All of this. exactly.
Sorry not a fan. Super British IMO and kind of ivy league sounding. I love Hugh, not a fan of Linus.
Good luck choosing!!
