C went through 3 outfits today. His poor daycare. :-( His room's leader actually called DH around 1pm and said if he had one more blow out, he'd have to go home (center policy), which thankfully he didn't.....until he got home.
We're at a loss. We're still waiting to hear back from the pedi since we sent stool samples to the lab.
DH and I are starting to wonder if he suddenly has a milk intolerance thing going on. At the same time, we also heard that yogurt could help his tummy. I'm hoping to hear from his pedi tomorrow, but it may not be until Thursday. :-/
I was wondering what say the December Moms since I know there are several LOs around here with milk issues.
Thoughts?
Re: What does a milk allergy/intolerance look like?
Your siggy is so appropriate for this subject lol
Poor guy! DH is lactose intolerant. Whenever he has anything with milk in it he has unbearable stomach pains followed by diarrhea... Has C had these problems before? I'm not sure that a lactose intolerance would just happen but I'm not an expert on milk either
He has been on milk since 12 months just fine, but I've been reading that antibiotics can leave kids temporarily intolerant because it puts their good bacteria out of whack. In early December, he was really sick and got a few shots of heavy antibiotics, so I'm starting to wonder if that's it.

Hmmm it could be... Hopefully you will hear from the pedi soon!
Sounds very plausible. Will he drink soy milk? If you give him that and a lot of yogurt tomorrow, then he should get better immediately if that was the issue.

Both kids (and I) have a milk allergy (allergic to the protein Whey). Theirs is worse than mine. For them, bloody diahrrea, distended stomachs, vomiting, and occasional rashes are the symptoms. So it is very obvious when they have ingested something that they shouldn't have. DS1 is also allergic to soy (we haven't tried DS2 with it since we already avoid it at home). With soy he only has a vomiting/diahrrea issue.
I hope that you are not dealing with this but if you are, I can give you a lot of substitution ideas as well as recipes. There are quite a few choices out there so don't panic if it is in fact an allergy!

O is sensitive (not allergic) to the protein in milk. when he was 4 months he started having tiny blood traces in his runny poop. the pedi told me to stop eating dairy. within 4 days the blood traces and his fussiness were gone. i never went back on dairy.
we moved cross country, got a new pedi..and she said most babies outgrow the sensitivity by 6 months and it was fine to transition to WCM. we transitioned and now his poops are super mushy (but not liquid). recently i started doing half WCM and half rice milk and his poops are more firm again. i think his tummy still doesnt like the milk.
it seems odd, though, that charlie would all of a sudden be sensitive to milk, so if thats it, then it must be due to the antibiotic like you suspect.
Poor Charlie! The pedi thought C had a milk allergy when he was a newborn. I remember that blood in the stool was one symptom. I don't know if the symptoms change as our LOs get older.
I know you said Charlie was on antibiotics in December, but I wasn't sure if he was still on them now. C was on antibiotics recently for an ear infection. I forget the exact name, but it was a strong antibiotic and he had diarrhea for several days while he was on it. He even had a poopslosion or two. Our DCP and the advice nurse said diarrhea was a normal side effect of the antibiotics. The advice nurse said diarrhea 4-5 times a day was normal, but to call back if it was more than that (it wasn't) and to watch out for signs of dehydration. The pedi and advice nurse both suggested lots of yogurt.
I hope he feels better soon!!
Edited for clarity
LO has this problem almost every time he's on antibiotics. We give him YoBaby yogurt because of the live cultures 2-3 times a day while he's on them - it helps keep away any rashes too. He normally gets at least 1 yogurt every day.

Have you tried Florastor for Kids? It's a probiotic I always put Honor on when she's on antibiotics. If his intestinal bacteria is out of balance, it will help put that good bacteria back. If I were you, and you haven't tried it, I would pick some up today and give him a dose or two today--they are powder packets that you can mix into water, juice, applesauce, milk, whatever.
Good luck! I hope you get answers soon!
