Cloth Diapering

Cloth wipes

I want to start using cloth wipes. I have a couple of questions, I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I've seen that alot of people make their own, and it does seem easy to do. But I have a ton of baby washcloths, they're cotton. Could I use these as wipes?

Right now we keep our wipes in a warmer. Can you do this with the cloth? I'm guessing if you do then you wet them first? Do they dry out quickly? Is it even necessary, seems like if you spray them each time with room temp water, then they probably wouldn't be that cold, am I right in assuming this?

Also, I found a site with alot of recipes for the solution, but if you have a favorite you'd like to share, that'd be great.

Thanks for the help!

Re: Cloth wipes

  • A lot of people use baby washcloths as wipes. They work perfectly.

We just keep ours pre moistened in a plastic container, so ours our cold when you take them out. I just warm them in my hand first. I'm sure there are others that have more experience with a wipe warmer.

We just use plain old water with ours. We used to use a solution, but were having so many issues with rashes, I wanted to reduce what things went on DD's skin.

  • I use a mix of spasilk wash cloths and store bought cloth wipes and both work fine.

I used a warmies cloth wipes warmer for my wipes.  They don't dry out - they are always perfect for when I need them.  I don't put too many in at a time (maybe 10-12).  I wet all the wipes and roll them up and lay them in rows.  Then I use a peri bottle to mix mostly water with a little tea tree oil, baby soap and baby oil and shake it, then squirt it over my wipes.  Works well for us!

Yes. I wet 4-6 at a time and put a few drops of TTO in the warmer. They don't dry out

I don't have a recipe. I use the method above.

  • I got a ton...a TON...of baby washcloths from people and I also got way too many receiving blankets than I could possibly use.  So I actually sewed them to each other to make double sided wipes...I think the flannel has a more soft "clean up" feel to it, whereas the wash cloths get the gunk off.  They're super easy to make and have been a great way for me to up cycle stuff I already had.

we keep them dry and wet them with a peri bottle. I emptied a contact solution bottle and make solution in it for the diaper bag. The cap just snaps on.
