A little background - last IVF I seemed to be over-supressed. We had 7 eggs retreived, 4 fertilized but only 3 cleaved. We went for our transfer and the RE told us the embies were terribly fragmented (40%). Transferred all 3 and BFN. At my WTF my RE said that the fragmentation was most likely due to my eggs being "overcooked" because I was oversupressed and stimmed for a long time. He changed my protocol this time, and at my ER on Monday we got 16 eggs. 10 were mature and 8 fertilized.
I just got our day two update. 7 of the 8 embryos have cleaved. We have three embryos that are 3 cell and 4 that are 2 cell. They said that about half of them are fragmented and half are not. That makes me sad. What the hell is up with that?!?! The embryologist kept saying that fragmentation is normal to some degree and they looked better than last time, but I was really hoping for no fragmentation at all. I?m hanging my hopes on those un-fragmented ones right now. I hope they look good tomorrow. We have to be there at 10:00 for the transfer and they'll tell us more then.
Has anyone had any experience with fragmentation. Is it normal? Can you still get a BFP if your embies are fragmented? I don't know why this is happening again.
Re: Please help - worried about fragmentation :(
One of two I had transferred had some fragmentation. I don't know if that is the baby I am pregnant with our not but our third was also fragmented and made it to blast and was frozen.
If NotFinished doesn't respond to this post you could try paging her. I know her embryos were fragmented and she is now pregnant with twins so don't give up hope!
Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12
Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck. Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.
