1st Trimester

I can't poop.

What can I do? Colace? Miralax?

Re: I can't poop.

  • Start Colace now and keep it in the house.  You're going to need it in 3rd tri and especially after the baby comes ;)

I never had poop problems in pregnancy. Yet another lovely way this baby is throwing all my expectations of pregnancy out the window.

  • I'm having the same issues my girlfriend recommended prunes or prune juice. I just had my first glass last night hoping things get moving more regularly.
  • Colace, which you will want to have for after having the baby. I also just started eating a few prunes a day because of the Zofran and extra iron I'm taking.

  • I drink a small glass of prune juice.  DId the trick for me.

  • For a while water and yogurt were helping me, but then that stopped.  My doctor told me to take Colace and Miralax twice a day until it started moving.  Once that happened I could cut back to one of those twice a day.  It took a few days for it to work, but it's been a lot better ever since!!  Good luck!!

Benefiber worked for me. I just mixed it into my coffee in the morning.

    GL, that's no fun.

This! It worked so fast for me. GL

  • Colace and orange juice helped me.

  • I have taken Miralax a couple of times, and it seems to work well without any side effects.  My doctor gave me a bunch of samples and said that it was safe to take occasionally, so I'm going to stick with it.

  • I've had my issues too so far and a half cup of coffee is the only thing that does it for me.

  • Cracklin Oat Bran cereal as a snack :)

  • My doc said 2 colace and 2 metamucil a day...it still took about 2-3 days to really kick in and get me regular again, and then I kept it to 1 colace/1 metamucil while I was on the Zofran.  Drink lots of water too, and a cup of coffee in the morning.  I hope you feel better soon!  I didn't realize how important pooping really was until I couldn't do it!

  • Coffee used to make me go, get decaf, add some half and half...you should start flowing.
  • Prune juice is your friend. Drink sparingly, though, or it'll give you the shiits. Anytime I've been plugged up, I drink about 1 cup of it in the morning, and I can usually go within 24 hrs. I've been adding it to fruit smoothies in the morning for the last couple of days now, and I'm pooping again. It's not a pleasant taste, though...so it might trigger nausea if you drink it straight!

Yes to this.  I had some today and can already feel my tummy rumbling.  A poster on another thread suggested cutting it with grape juice to make it taste better.  It works!

  • You can do milk of magnesia which will make you go. I would keep colace on hand. It takes a few days to work but you'll need it! And lots of water!
