Anyone planning Natural birth?

I live in topeka and have previously delivered @ both hospitals. I'm considering using the Birth and Womens Center this time! Anyone else planning a natural or home birth? I have to admit I'm a bit scared!!!!

Re: Anyone planning Natural birth?

  • I live south of Topeka, and I am planning a natural birth. I haven't had a chance to look at that birth center. Have you toured it or talked to them yet? I feel more secure delivering at the hospital but am afraid that they won't take my natural birth plan seriously.

  • I too live in topeka. We really wanted to birth at the Birth and Womens Center but our insurance will not cover any of the cost if we go there. We are planning a natural birth at St Fran. with a midwife who is totally on board. I have heard wonderful things from friends birthing at the Center. I would if I could!

  • I delivered both of my babies at St. Francis. I've heard both good and bad about Birth and Womens Center. One of the negatives that I've heard is that its really dirty. ? Not sure if that is accurate as I've never been their personally myself. But I would just recommend checking it out well before making any big decisions. Good luck!
  • Fellow Topekan having a natural birth here.

I have been going to the Birth and Women's center since I was about 20 weeks along. I' m currently 36w 4d and I LOVE the care I've been receiving. In fact, when my insurance got switched last week to one that they did not accept, (long story) I decided to pay out of pocket. (much cheaper than a hospital birth) That's how wonderful these women make me feel.

The facility is warm and cozy, the midwives never rush you and address any and all concerns you may have. It's certainly not dirty, but it is absolutely not a hospital, which is why I love it. No sterile stainless steel or stench of alcohol. I became pregnant two monthes after finishing some serious treatment of a relapse of cancer that I had been fighting since 2009... So after spending the majority of the last two years of my life attached to beeping machines in hosptitals, they just make me think of death and sick people, and I'm not sick anymore. I'm pregnant. So the less like a hospital, the better, in my case.

I highly recommend you meet the midwives and take a tour. The birthing rooms are full of light, and there is a pretty awesome whirlpool tub!

I'm very excited to be having my baby in this place. It just feels right. No IV lines, no being strapped down to fetal monitors, no beeping machines, no harsh lights and strangers. A beautiful place to welcome my little guy into the world. :)
