I don't know if any of you remember, but about a year and a half ago my mom had a pancreas transplant. She had been living without a pancreas for about 5 years after having her very diseased one removed. She's done well with the transplant but has had a hard time getting the anti rejection meds to be a high enough level due to some intestinal neuropothy. At any rate she's started becoming more and more sick over the past few weeks, wound up in intense amounts of pain and has had blood test after blood test and a cat scan showed that part of her new pancreas is dead. (keep in mind it took 5 years to find a decent match as her antibodies are super high).
She's usually such a high spirited person but I know she's very down right now. They are puting in a stint to help drain some of the fluid pooling in there and giving her i doses of antibiotics and will hopefully get some of the pain under control. If tests show this helps, she'll get to keep her pancreas and that would be the best option. If not......well then they will have to remove the pancreas and any other damaged organs/tissues they find when they get in there.
Need as many T+P that the first option will work and my mom will be able to keep her pancreas.....shes young (will be 49 in april)...i can't imagine having as many problems as she's had and as young as she is....need to keep her around for a good while longer ![]()
