Landon's 1 year stats are not what I was hoping for. His head was about the 79th percentile, his height was the 10th percentile, and his weight is 2.45%.
They measured him at the start of his appointment: he was 28.75". The pedi thought this was too small, so they remeasured and he was 28.5". So now we have to go back in a month to get his height and weight rechecked.
I feel like we've been doing a good job of "fattening him up" recently... he likes pancakes, bananas, sweet potato fries, grilled cheese... he eats bigger meals than my 8 year old niece, but he's still too little.
We also go in Monday for lab work to check for problems with his thyroid. I remember when he was a newborn they checked for hypothyroidism because he was so big. Now they are going to check for hyperthyroidism because he's too small.
Please keep the little man in your thoughts and prayers, that he is a healthy dude with no real issues.
Re: 1 year WCC... so frustrated!
I'm starting to get really pissed at these doctors. Why isn't it ok that our kids are at the bottom of the curve? Someone has to be, no?
If you saw my post below, you saw all the questions that my doctor asked me: how is his mood? Does he roll, smile, laugh, crawl, pull up, cruise, grab things? If the answer is yes, then he is most likely ok. But if not, then the tests might be necessary. What do you think when you see him: that something seems wrong with him or that he seems happy and fine?
Jilly, I totally agree with you. I read your post and expected I'd have a similar experience as yours. Did you BF? I saw jarebearsmom's post too, and she was an EBFer... I'm wondering if that has something to do with it. All the other babies around DS's age were on formula and they were all 23 pounds by 9 months.
And yes... someone has to be at the bottom of the spectrum!
He is a happy boy... doing everything I think he should be doing at this age. Just not walking on his own yet.
We'll see how things go after his lab work, but I think he's fine. I'm just frustrated that I even feel like I'm not doing enough, because I know I'm a d*mn good mom.
Aw, poor L. But really, what is wrong with being a small baby? C was the same way with the huge noggin' though - all his calories went to his head!
Good luck - I hope the lab work gives you some answers.

I agree that a lot of the time the doctor's are over reacting. Look how many little babies are on this board. Like Jilly said some babies are going to be in the small percentiles and there is nothing wrong with that.
Isaac only weighs about 19 pounds and is 29-3/4 inches (or he was at 12 months). So for his height he is definitely a skinny little guy. All but one of my kids have been on the small end of the percentiles so my doctor doesn't make a big deal of it which is wonderful.
Mommysaurus I hope everything turns out okay - I think it will. Keep us updated.
I'm with Jilly. We live in a country plagued with obesity and overeating and it seems like every pedi on the planet is stressing out the moms with the little babies. Maybe trying to fatten up naturally petite kids is part of the problem?
That being said, my LO might be the smallest one on the board at this point (maaaaybe 17 lbs at 13 months, not sure) and while I do try to make sure that she gets protein/fat rich foods in her diet for nutrition's sake, and I steer her towards milk/yogurt and away from water, I try not to worry.
I was 16 lbs at a year and I'm fine. Petite (5'2" 113lbs) but that's genetic and not a bad thing. Somebody has to be at the bottom of the chart!
Thanks. I think what the pedi is worried about is that DH is 6'1" and I am almost 5'9," so Landon is pretty small compared to how long he "should" be with such tall parents. Not that we're freakishly tall, but we're both about 3 inches above average height for our respective genders.
::sigh:: hopefully his growth spurt is just coming late.
