My drs office just called and told me they found bacteria after testing from my first apt. They called in a 7 day antibiotic to the pharmacy. The nurse didn't seem overly concerned and, although I tried to ask questions, didn't fully answer me. She just compared it to the strep b test at 36 weeks. Has this happened to anyone else? It didn't happen with my first two pregnancies.

According to my online chart, my urine sample was positive for bacteria. It looks like they tried to grow a culture from it, but the sample showed no growth. The nurse didn't call about it, so I assume I'm fine. I'm going to guess that if the culture would have showed growth that I would have been put on antibiotics.
Most urine will have a small amount of bacteria in it, because the labia aren't bacteria free. The only way to get a completely clean speciman is by being catheterized, which obviously they do not do routinely. Most of the time when you have a urinalysis done, they do the rapid test, and then send it out for a 24 hour culture to see if the small amount of bacteria has colonized into anything.
