DS - bad cough at night - what to do?

DS has had a horrible cough for the last 3-4 nights, so bad it's waking him up at least once a night.  It sounds almost squeaky tonight, and only very, very rarely is it seal-like, so I'm assuming it's not croup (yet)?

Is there anything else I can do for him besides warm baths/steamy bathroom, saline drops, vicks rub and a humidifier in his room?  I'm going to call the pedi in the AM just to be safe, but any other ideas to help him would be appreciated.

TIA

  • It sounds like it's tapering off.  If he's really uncomfortable or you think he's in pain, you can give him a little Tylenol. I rarely give tylenol to DD but if she is having a hard time sleeping through something like that or even bad teething (sore mouth, super congested) I might give her a little.

  • Ah, good call on the Tylenol - I just feel so badly for him :(  The cough actually sounds worse to me than the nights before - it used to just sound like a normal cough, but the "squeaking" is new tonight.

Go figure, just in time for our cross-country flight this weekend - ugh!

  • Triaminic makes a vapor fan.   It really helps DS when he is coughing.

  • Ah, this is why I posted this (pg brain is making me forget stuff!)  Forgot about the vapor fan - will go plug that in, too!  Thanks  :)
  • I have no idea if this works or not, but try putting vick rub on his feet and cover with socks, or foot pjs.  It might be an old wives tale, but it's worth a shot if nothing else is working.
