Success after IF

Has anyone tried the HCG diet?

I'm going to Mexico next month and am NOT happy with how I look.  I've slowly been losing weight since I had my girls but I'm still not back to my pre pg weight.

I just saw a Plum District offer from doctorassistedweightloss.com for $69 for the hcg diet.  I'm kinda considering giving it a shot.  I'd like some feedback before I go for it though.

Re: Has anyone tried the HCG diet?

  • My sister, a doc, did it.  It worked great for her.  She had a lot of hair loss though as one of hte side effects.  She actually took a long break from it to let her hair start to fill in again.

  • A good friend had great success fast but after reading over it I think she might have had the same success just by following the food part alone without the drug.  The first week is brutal calorie wise!

The down side is that she gained rebound weight pretty bad.

Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.

Yikes!  Was losing her hair from malnutrition?  I definitely don't want to lose hair again.  The post pg hair loss was bad enough!

See...that's what I'm afraid of.  I want to lose this weight once and for all.  That's why I've been doing it so slowly in the first place.  I'm not usually one for fast fixes and am pretty skeptical about this sort of thing in general.  I also really like to eat food!  Not sure I could survive on 500 calories.  They do have another program where you can eat more and still exercise but you lose weight less quickly.  I think I'm more inclined to go that route.

nope, I think it was similar to post partum hair loss, except she didn't have all that pregnancy time of it building up...so her hair just got thinner and thinner!

Exactly!  I'm pretty sure anyone can lose weight if they are consuming 600 calories a day...though you'd probably need to take an appetite suppressant of some sort.

I also wouldn't do it because in the past (3 years ago) my pharmacy told me there was a HCG shortage because of this diet and I wouldn't want to do something that would have a detrimental effect on other IFers out there.

  • My friends that did it had to eat 500 calories a day- if you eat 500 calories a day you are going to loose weight, it doesnt matter if you are taking HCG shots or not. They did loose weight, but most of them have all gained it back, because they couldn't keep up with only eating so little.

  • I'm convinced this does NOT sound like the right diet for me.  I'm looking for something that will have long-term results.  Sounds like I'll keep plugging away by eating healthy and exercising.

  • A casual friend of mind did it. She seemed to have good results initially, but also seemed to gain most of the weight back after she stopped.

  • I hear nothing but great things about how it works, then nothing but bad stories about how the weight all comes back. Quickly.

If you're going to do meds, PHENTERMINE!  OMG, what a glorious wonderful drug. You just stop obsessing about food. You eat much less. You learn that you don't NEED the whole box of Mac & Cheese to yourself. It helps curb the appetite, lbs fall off, you FEEL like exercising... it helps you do all those things that people NEED to do to loose weight (eat less, move more) just makes it a little easier, I say. LOVE LOVE LOVE phentermine. Can't wait to be done nursing someday and trim up!
