I'm embarrassed that I know this but, Baylor is Selena Gonez and The Biebs puppy's name. I don't hate it but where I live it would be pronounced like Bailer, not very nice. It seems like a very southern name to me.
The history of many, many names was derived from the family business or other occupation. Baker, Carpenter, Miller, etc. True, you see many of them as surnames, but even some (Taylor, Thatcher, Mason) have also migrated to first names. I don't automatically dislike it just because it lends itself to sounding similar to "bailer."
That said, I'm also from Texas. Drove through Waco (where Baylor U is) on my journey to Texas Tech at least twice a semester. I will be delivering at a Baylor Medical Center. So I wouldn't use the name myself, only because Baylor U is a conference rival, and I wouldn't want people to think I named my child after the hospital he was born in!
However, if you're not from an area where there is a Baylor Health System, it's a cute name. Though the nn Bay is nms, sounds short for Bailey.
I don't hate it.. I would assume its was a family name or something though and not just random If it naturally progressed to Bay as a nn though i would find that a bit feminine..
Re: Baylor for a boy.
Sorry, but I despise that name.
When I see it all I think is "baler." Like a machine that bales hay.
But I live on a dairy farm..I could be skewed in my viewpoint.
Lost Lilah (Audra's twin) at 26 weeks. Cause unknown. Forever in our hearts
i just hear that song "pick a bail of cotton...pick a bail of hay."
I don't live on a farm and it is still what I think of. It seems very juvenile to me.
My BIL goes to Baylor University, and I work at Baylor Hospital, lol.
I it weren't for that, I might like it.
