Help! LO is starting to prefer boob over bottle

I've always bottle and breastfed my LO (she didn't star nursing until about 6 weeks, she refusd at first). Now she is starting to prefer nursing to my expressed milk. I like comfort nursing her, but install prefer for her to get regular bottles during scheduled feedings. How can I get her to take the bottle again? She took it fine this morning, but this evening during bedtime I had to nurse her, pull away quickly and stick the bottle in. I like to know how many oz she is getting and I prefer bottles for feeding in public. Help!

  • Sorry, I can't help but I?m in the same position. I had to start supplementing with formula for a few feedings a day when N was 4mo bc of supply issues and I still do. It's torture to try and get him to take a bottle...

  • This is a complete guess, since I'm not in that position, but have you tried only nursing her at set times? Before bed, when she wakes up, something like that? Then she'll associate nursing with that activity, and bottles for other feedings.

  • Yeah, I tried doing it only for naps, but whe. She started not taking her bottles I would nurse her because I wanted her to eat. Oh well, we will try again tomorrow. She took it fine this morning so hopefully she will tomorrow morning.
  • Look on the bright side: there is less to wash with BF. I hate dealing with cleaning the pump parts, the bottles, and dealing with warming up a bottle. Nursing is much quicker. If you don't feel comfortable in public you can try a good nursing cover. I know it's not answering the question you asked, so sorry to get off topic. Have you tried the Tomee Tipee closer to nature bottles? They're bigger and the nipple seems to resemble the real thing a bit better. We had some luck with them in the past when DH watched DD.

  • I found she prefers the First Years Breastflow bottles when she starts doing this.  She also will absolutely refuse if it is not warm.  She was really starting to refuse a few weeks ago to the point where I was up all night nursing her to make up for the bottles she refused while I was at work, so we bumped up to the stage two nipples and it has been so much better.  Good luck. It is a pain to have a lo who won't take a bottle!
