we did-- they've been running these shock ads about children needing flu vaccines here, plus we have her in daycare and the subway. Better safe for us.
EDIT: just realized this was for SAHM's-- oops!

I really didn't want to give it to her but the pedi all but told me DD would die if she got the flu.
I don't have a flu shot but DH does because he's in the military and it's a requirement. I feel like the flu shot is such a shot (no pun intended) in the dark...they never know for certain what strain will show up.

My pedi felt like DS would be okay since he's not in daycare, so we didn't do it. He said we could reevaluate anytime, especially if we hear of any outbreaks.
Our pedi advised that, since I was BF, it was better for me to get it and Max would get the immunity through the breastmilk. First flu shot I've ever had.
LO got it. I have older kids who are in school, so LO will be exposed to whatever the sibs bring home. She's also passed around at church a lot. I'd rather her have the shot than the flu...
My pedi said they give the flu shot in 2 doses, one at 6 months and the other 6 weeks later. Since LO didn't turn 6 months until almost January, she said it would be a waste because it wouldn't fully be effective until flu season was pretty much over.

I completely agree. I think they go with whatever strains where most prevalent the year before. So it probably mostly is a hit or miss, example being the swine flu in 09.
Yes, we all got it and I highly recommend it. DH works at a busy pharmacy where sick people just come to him asking all kinds of crazy questions, like asking him to listen to their coughs and identify what kinds of treatment they need??? I also work once a week in the health care so there's no risking it for us. You just never know what kinds of germs people are carrying with them without them even knowing it.

Yes we did because I don't know when I am going to find a job. Could be months, could be tomorrow. So since we didn't know when she would actually start daycare we went ahead and had them give it.
I'm on the fence about it. I have never had the shot and neither has MH. I have not had the flu in my entire adult life...I don't think I even got it in high school (so its been at least 15 yrs). Mason's appt is on Fri and as of now I'm going with no as he has a cold and a low grade fever that popped up last night.
We got one for him the day after Christmas and have to go back in 2 weeks. Pedi recommended it. He wants us to get one too, but I don't think DH and I will.
We got LO the first booster and we are stuck on if we are going to take him back for the 2nd booster. When he had his other shots he was fine no fever no nothing. When he got his 6 month shots along with the flu vaccine he ran a fever of 102.9 at the highest for the first 36 hours following them. I honestly do not think I want to put him or us through that again.

No. I took both boys for their doctors visit together, Ben had his 3 year well visit and Oliver his 6 month visit. Both boys got shots and I didn't realize until several days later that they didn't get the flu shot. The nurses and doctor didn't even mention the flu shot to me and it slipped my mind. I got the flu shot earlier in the season.
We did. I'm still not sure how I feel about it though. I'm not getting one since we will be changing insurance in February and moving and I have no time to go to the doctor and get one.
I'm not a SAHM, but our LO is not in daycare because MH is a WAHD. We decided not to do the flu shot, although our pedi wasn't really happy about it. At the time, I was glad b/c she was all pitiful and grumpy for 36 hours after her 6 month shots and she didn't have any problems with immunizations before. I figured the flu shot would have made it even worse since nearly everyone has side effects from it.
After reading some of these comments, I'm not 100% sure we made the right decision. Oh well, can't do much about it now.
We all got them. Having the flu as an adult is MISERABLE - like 2 weeks worth of miserable. I can't imagine what it's like for an infant. No thank you.
Our Dr said he normally doesn't give them to infants. So we skipped this year.

Yes. I did some research, talked to some moms I know, and talked to my pedi. I decided to go for it, she's had her flu shot and the booster 1 month later. We have had no problems.
Yes. The risks of flu complications being so severe for little ones is what made me decide to do it. Even though I am a stay at home mom, we are not hermits. We go out plenty of public places, we go to Gymboree, we go to play groups, we go to my mom's assisted living community. Thus plenty of exposure to potentially bug carrying others.
Also my husband works in the US Capitol and is exposed to large amounts of tourists every day and any illnesses they bring with them. Never fail, every winter he brings home something nasty.

I plan on doing it next year though.
This. DH and I both got it though.
